Dr Kirkland elicits confidence in his ability during the first meeting. He seemed to understand the issues that we all deal with. He only performed gb in an open method but I had every confidence that he was very capable and that method did not bother me. In retrospect, I think I would rather have had the opportunity for laproscopic surgery as I had to have an incisional hernia repair done several years later. His staff was notified and didn't really express any concern during my next followup. Not sure how I feel about that. Beyond the initial meeting with him, I don't know that I saw him again for longer than 10 minutes. I am very pleased with most of the staff. From scheduling appointments, holding support group meetings, answering questions, and making themselves available, they are the best. I have never felt that there wasn't support there if I needed it. They don't forget about you once the surgery is over but rather encourage you to continue to participate in after care programs.

My first impression was that he was rushed around the office like crazy, but very nice.rnI like him very much he seems to have a really good rep with staff. I just wish he would have talked to me a little longer, because I didn't kow what to say at our first meeting even after the surgery. My after care info was stressed by the nutritionist no so much from the surgeon. He did address the risks with me but i already knew them. I would rate him very highly. He is very friendly but I feel that the practice is very busy and he runs around like a chicken to see everyone. He has surgical competence and that is what is more important. But if he has a nice bedside manner that makes you feel more confident in him. Nothing negative to say at all I am feeling great.

Dr. Kirkland and his office staff were very nice and extremely knowledgeable about everything. Dr. Kirkland explained the procedure thoroughly to me and if I had any questions, his office staff were always there to answer my questions.

My first impression of Dr. Kirkland was a very positive one. He was very knowledgeable, professional and personable. He throughly explained the procedure and associated risks and asked if I had any questions. I didn't see him again until the day of surgery, but contacts in the hosptial all had very positive things to say. I would highly recommend him!

Dr. Matt Kirkland is a well-respected surgeon. He is very well spoken and has answers to any question that you may have regarding bariatric surgery. Many people speak very highly of him and from what I could tell from meeting him, I believe I will have a lot of nice things to say about him as well.

The moment I met Dr. Kirkland, I knew I met the right doctor - felt instantly at ease and in the best hands possible, I stopped my search for the best doctor and made up my mind after having heard him speak. His office staff was wonderful; take my calls and answer my questions/concerns whenever I call and are very attentive. You don't get to see Dr. Kirkland much during your actual hospital stay, but that's because he's very busy on his surgery days - but you won't mind, you'll want his expertise over his bedside manner!

I was very impressed with Dr. Kirkland the first time I met him. I had never heard someone so passionate about helping people who are morbidly obese. I was able to make a connection with him immediately. He was had so much knowledge to share. He approached morbid obesity as a disease. He was the key factor in my choosing to have the gastric bypass instead of the lapband which I was orginally researching.
