Dr Mann was the surgeon at RAF Lakenheath who removed my wife's Gallbladder. At the time of the surgery, he found bile duct cancer. Dottie was medivac'd to Wilford Hall MC where the oncologist said it was NOT cancer and sent us home. Dottie died 2 years ago from soft tissue sarcoma that spread throughout her abdomen. I can't help but feel if Dr. Mann's diagnosis was acted upon, Dottie would still be with me today.

I have the greatest respect for the man and anyone lucky enough to be his patient can have full confidence in his abilities.

I couldn't have been blessed with a more awesome Dr. than Dr. Mann. I absolutely love this man for believing in me and performing RNY in Feb. 04. He gave me my life back. His bedside manner was so compasionate, and warming I just can't say enough about Dr.Mann. I wish he could see me today. Thanks Dr. Mann

Very understanding with an excellent bedside manner. The Keesler staff is a great team. They give lots of support. He stresses the importance of support grouping, and the post op aftercare.I'm not to that point just yet. Dr. Mann radiates confidence.

Dr. Mann has the sweetest bedside manner of any doctor I have ever met. He is so caring and concerned about his patients well being. I would recommend him to anyone that is eligible to have surgery through Keesler. He has always treated me with the utmost respect and care. I am very appreciative to him, he saved my life in more ways than he could ever know>

I really liked my surgeon. He answered any and all questions I had. He even answered questions I didn't know I had. He didn't sugar coat anything he told us straight up what to expect and what not to expect. I would reccomend Dr. Mann to everyone who wants to have this surgery. He is one of the best doctors.

My first impression of Dr. Mann was great. He took the time to actually listen to me, and let me ask ALL of my questions without trying to ease toward the door to go on to the next patient. I did not feel that he was trying to "sell" me on having the surgery (but he is Air Force...he doesn't have to!). I found out at a later (chance) meeting that he was a devout Christian, and I met his family briefly. This brief encounter strengthened my faith in him as my surgeon; he is a genuine and humble person, not a "snoot".

Dr. Mann's nurse, Lisa, is AWESOME! She never makes you feel that you are pestering her, even if you are. She answers all questions very thouroughly, and does not judge you by either your weight or your strange questions. She is very available, even giving out her own contact info, and she is available at all meetings and support groups. Together Lisa and Dr. Mann are a formidable team.

What do I like the least about Dr. Mann? That he can't move into my house and personally supervise my diet and exercise changeover! No, there's nothing he has said or done so far that I have a problem with.

Dr. Mann and Lisa emphasize after care very much, and they advocate each WLS candidate attend inform meetings and support groups (the latter for most of the rest of your life). They repeat that WLS is a tool, and that you can totally screw it up through non-compliance. They gently put the burden on you to succeed, which is where a lot of people don't want it! But they do not mislead you in any way of the difficulties of leading a post-WLS life or falsely raise your hopes that you will look like Cindy Crawford/Tom Cruise on the other side of WLS. The risks of surgery were quietly but firmly explained, and they basically got me to repeat after them so they knew I had heard what they said.

Pre-surgery, I must rate Dr. Mann with a 10 out of 10. If I come home missing something I ought not to be missing, I'll revise my opinion!

Which is better: surgical competence or bedside manner? Well, I would prefer a snarling, nasty, COMPETENT surgeon over a sweet-natured, soft-talking NINCOMPOOP who botches the surgery. However, I'm lucky...I don't have to choose! Dr. Mann has a great bedside manner, and from what I have read/heard/researched he is extremely competent as well!

Doctor Michael Mann, Major, MC, USAF was my surgeon at RAF Lakenheath, UK (Air Force Base in England).

*My first impression of Dr. Mann was that he was very sensitive, and prepared me well to let me know it would not be easy, I liked him alot.

*How my impression changed was I liked him even more! He even took the time to pray with my husband and I, and keeps in touch with me via e-mail.

*The staff was very helpful and interested in me as a person.

*There was not a thing I did not like about Dr. Mann.

*Future patients should know that Dr. Mann is in the Military and right now can only take patients in the Military or dependents. Though I am sure he will pick this up when he gets out of the Air Force. He comes Highly recomended, By the Doc that refered me to him and by me.

*After care is important to Dr. Mann, he wanted to see me every month after surgery, but sense I am in Germany and he in England, he made sure I got with a Doc here to keep tabs on me. He also is very willing to answer any questions I have ever had via e-mail. I have gone in for one follow up appt. just in Sept.

*Dr. Mann made sure I knew the risk of this surgery, he made sure again and again that I understood and even asked me the day of surgery, "you are sure you want this?"

*Overall I would rate Dr. Mann 10 out of 10. He is everything that a surgeon should be. He is helpful, kind, sensitive, careful, knowlegable, and has a sense of humor too!

*Both his bedside manner and surgical competence was outstanding!

*Doc Mann will be moving on to Holloman AFB in NM June 2001 this is good for State Side folk. America sure can use him!:)
