  • About Me
    Dr. Halversen is an experienced General Surgeon. He attended the University of Utah Medical School. He completed his General Surgical Residency at the University of Utah Affiliated Hospitals in 1972, at which time he joined the full-time faculty of the University of Utah Department of Surgery in the School of Medicine. Board Certified in General Surgery, Dr. Halversen served his country on active duty in the United States Army while stationed at Fort Rucker, Alabama from 1973 to 1975. During his time in Alabama, he served as a General Surgeon and Flight Surgeon, and also dedicated a great deal of time to service at the Brooke Army Medical Center Institute for Surgical Research (Burn Center). In late 1975, he returned to the University of Utah as Director of the Intermountain Burn Center, and Director of the Emergency Services and General Surgery Staff of the UUMC and VAH. Dr. Halversen left the University of Utah in 1978 for private practice in the Salt Lake City community at Holy Cross Hospital. He remained there until 1998 when he joined RMAP in the practice of Bariatric and General Surgery. Experienced in the transected gastric bypass for morbid obesity, Dr. Halversen is an enthusiastic and expert surgeon advocate of the surgical treatment of obesity. He is proficient in both laparoscopic and open gastric bypass procedures. He is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, and holds membership in the American Society of Bariatric Surgeons, the American Medical Society, the Utah Medical Association and the Salt Lake Surgical Society. He is an enthusiastic skier as a Member of the Park City Mountain Resort Ski Patrol. He enjoys bicycling and scuba diving.

    I am 1 year out from surgery and have finished with my doc visits. Doc Halversen was very competent and easy to get along with. He is very strict about the diet and exercise though. His feeling about the surgery was that it is only More...

    Dr. Halversen is the best... His excellent surgical skills, coupled with his great bedside manner make him #1 in my book!
