My first impression of Dr Janes was very good. He took time to talk to me and explain things. He told be of the benefits of the surgery and the risks. The office staff is excellent. Cinda is a wonder. Dr Janes and Cinda (his nurse) emphasized aftercare strongly and let me know that it was very important. They do have an aftercare program I have not discussed it much at this point. (I only just got approved by my insurance)Overall so far I would rate their service to me as excellent. I will update as time goes on and let you know how things go.

Below are my personal impressions of MY own personal experience and I am making NO statements about what other people may experience. I am told by others that they had better experiences than I did with this surgeon. I am not implying he does not know how to operate or perform surgery because I KNOW he does. His competency is not in question with me, only the overall experience I personally had. I also know he has MANY years of experience doing this and knows his stuff!

I was very intimidated by him at first. He seemed serious and overwhelming. His staff was very friendly. Over time, I realized that he seems to care about his patients. He was difficult, if not impossible, for me to "discuss" anything with. He TOLD me how it was going to be (according to his view) and it was obvious he did not really like to be asked questions despite asking me if I had any. He did, however, answer them.

He seemed to brush off and downplay the importance of anything I asked. Some of the information I got from him directly contradicted other information I had gotten from friends, other physicians, the internet, and research. I did not feel there was sufficient teaching about aftercare, and was told it was normal to vomit frequently. I felt the need for regular exercise was not encouraged at all. The aftercare program was virtually non-exsistant.

He was extremely meticulous in making sure I understood the risks of the surgery, but was reluctant to thoroughly explain what exactly was going to be done during surgery. I got the feeling he thought I didn't have any business asking what was going to be done because I wasn't the one doing the surgery. As far as rating him, I feel he is a competent surgeon (I didn't die and can eat), but his office needs to develop some type of program for follow-up and aftercare so patients don't feel they are alone with no one to ask questions of. I was also not happy with my incision and the closure of the incision. I think it looked like it had been done and stitched up on a cadaver after an autopsy. It goes from sternum almost to the pubic bone. Even my primary care physician gasped when she saw it! There was not even any follow-through with bariatric post op care in the hospital (I was given cokes, sugar-laden liquids, etc.).

If I had it to do over, I would chose a different surgeon for my surgery. Bariatric surgery involves so much more than just the surgery and you need a surgeon who has a complete program to be successful.

Surgical competence is a definite requirement for this surgery, but if the bedside manner is such that you aren't comfortable talking to or asking questions of the surgeon, what good is his competency? I think both are necessary for optimal success!

My best friend had surgery a month before me and used a surgeon in Little Rock and her experience was TOTALLY different.

I found Dr. Janes to be a very straight forward individual who was knowledgable about the proceedure.

He is not a very personal man and tended to stay formal and somewhat removed from me as my case deteriorated.

His office staff I believe is the best available and I can see no room for improvement

His explanation of the risks and possible negative out come of the surgery were not explained or stressed enough. The actual proceedure was also not explained in detail.

I dont know about the aftercare program as my case went in the crapper and I did not have a normal recovery

I believe Dr. Janes is a good man and a compitent suregon I think in my case problems surfaced that neither of us expected or were ready for.

I was very comfortable with Dr Janes, he has a lot of experience with bariatric surgery and knows what he is doing. His office and nursing staff are wonderful.

He seemed very relaxed and explained everything completely. He answered all my questions without hesitation. He definitely knew what he was doing and had confidence in his abilities. I felt like he was very polite and friendly especially since he had been doing a surgery earlier. I have read other reviews that said he was kind of blunt and not very nice, but not when I met him. Cynda is the glue that holds that place together. She does everything and she is great. Great instruction, great attitude, helps with approvals. So far it has been great....I will update when I complete my journey.

I thought Dr.Janes was great! He was very honest and his nurse was so wonderful as well as his staff.I would give him a A+ so far.My date is for 2-23-04 if weather permits,I live in rogers. He addressed everything and answered all my question. And to me surgical competence is more important than if I liked him or not, but I did like him.

well its 3-4-04 and Dr.Janes is still what as I discribe but as for removeing staples a F is the grade and after support a F also. But he said he would not be my babysitter and I knew that from the begining. So really have your info. ready if you use him.As for sparks hospitol,I would grade them a c-.

Dr. Janes is very knowledgeable about gastric bypass surgery and has been doing them for over twenty years. He doesn't have much of a personality but his skills far out weigh that. He is very straight-forward and tells you like it is. After-care with doctor Janes is there but they do not give you much information about what to eat.

I saw Dr.Janes on June 20th of this year.I really liked him cuz he was up front and didn't sugar coat it. In august i called Barbara and she called my insurance company and they couldn't find my paper work,so she had to fax them to them and with in a week they were asking for a psyhic consult and a tsh done so we got that done and on Oct the 3rd it was approved by my insurance company and Cenda called me on Oct 7th with a surgery date of Nove 10th. Boy i am so happy. I think Dr. Janes is a very smart and nice person and i look forward to talking to him more.

my first impression of my dr. was that he wasn't a very good sympathizer and that he was straight forward and to the point. he didn't mince words or have a good bedside manor but he was excellent in his field of work so i over looked this part,he does not encourage and he lets you know you are a failure up front. over time he has begun to smile a little and he tries hard to be alittle bit more encouraging but its just not in him, the office staff more than makes up for his part, they are the most up-lfting and encouraging staff i've met they are always commenting and giving encouragement, they work with you and answer all the questions you ahve and if you need to you can call the office for anything.if you use dr, janes don't be discouraged by his bedside manner he more than makes up for it in his surgery practice he's an excellent surgeon.he was up front on all the risks and didnt mince words about the risks or problems that could arise. thanks dr. janes i would rate him a nine.

I have been a registered nurse for about 12 years. During my nursing career, I have had the opportunity to work with many physicians. Dr. Janes is, by far, one of the most honest and sincere, up-front, to-the-point doctors that I have ever met. He knows what he is doing and he does it well! I feel very comfortable with him and would recommend him 100% to anyone considering having an open RNY. Cinda is just as dedicated to her patients as Dr. Janes. Crystal, Cathy, Barbara and Mary make an office visit or telephone call a pleasant experience, also. I have had numerous surgeries in the past, but this experience outshines them all. They all seem genuinely concerned about their patient's welfare and well-being. Keep up the great work :)
