Unfortunately this doctor is no longer doing or working with his old patients for bypass issues.

he's very friendly and professional.
over time i found him to honestly care about how i felt.
His office staff are very helpful, and caring, when i call they go out of their way to help me.
i like best about dr.Hopson is his dedication to helping the overweight patient
there is nothing i dont like about him.
future patients should know that he expects you to honestly be dedicated to helping yourself and working fully with him.
He wants to see everyone one of his patients attend support group with him or where ever they can find one and to make all appointments,so he can make sure everything is right
yes he has his support group and makes appointments with you every few weeks after surgery.
Dr.Hopson sits you down during your appointments and stresses all the risks so you are fully aware of what could happen.
I think Dr.Hopson is wonderful.
I think surgical competence is great but fortunatly not only is he a great surgeon but a friendly caring man and it shows.

Dr. Hopson was very nice and straight to the point. He let you and your family know that it is a possibility that you could die from the surgery. He was very comforting and made me feel comfortable about doing my surgery. I was completely satisfied. His only down fall is that his after care was a complete 0. He doesn't keep track of your progress after the first year or two and he doesn't advise about support groups which are highly needed.

Dr. Hopson was highly recommended by a husband and wife that had him as their surgeon. He has an extensive questionaire that he asks you before he decides to see you. The two women in his office are very friendly and helpful (they get things done fast!!). I've had one appointment with him. I will have one more with my husband and Dr. Hopson. Surgery is already scheduled for December 11, 2002 at Hampton General Hospital. Haven't done pre-op yet. Pray for me that everything goes well. I am so excited and happy. I have tried so many things to loose weight in the past and nothing worked. WOW, I am bursting with joy!!! Dr. Hopson is wonderful so far.

Dr.Hopson is a wonderful surgeon. Office manner and bedside manner are unquestion-able. He explained the risks of surgery but I was still not prepared for the leakage and infection which I experienced.
He doesn't do much aftercare. He encourages attendance at local support groupo of former patients.

Due to the complications I suffered, I was not able to eat any food for two months. During the period I was on a feeding tube on Ensure and mad as heck at the doctor for catching the leakage. I had a second operation which was to stop the leaking and did not.

For almost three weeks I was NPO (nothing by mouth), not even water. Thereafter I was on ice chips and water and feeding through the tube for two months.

Nice, cute, young man that is warm and straight to the point about the surgery.I feel comfortable with him doing my surgery and I have no worries about anything. His office is the BOMB and they really get down to business about getting you approved, i didn't think I would be approved so fast but I am one of the lucky ones,Thank You!!!

First impression was very good. His office was very nice and he seemed knowledgeable and experianced. He studied under Walter Pories (sp?)which made me feel good. My impression has changed a bit as I am 3 weeks post op on February 12, 2002. He was a good surgeaon and hospital care was wonderful. He is very conservative and only lets you leave after a leak test floriscope. He went over the risks very well pre op but is not very thorough with after care. He seems ambivilent almost as far as vitamins and what we can and can't eat. We were on a liquid only diet for 2 weeks post op and then told to try out soft foods and see what we could handle. I get most of my info about diet and vitamins from this site and so far not from him, but its early. I would reccommend him to people who are self motivated.

I have had changes in mid stream and now have a new surgeon. I will be meeting with Dr. S. Hopson on Monday Dec. 17,2001 for the first time. I will update my information at that time. Just let me say if you are discouraged God will always open a door or a window. God bless you.

If anyone has been reading the entries from above. You know that I've changed my choice of surgeons. I've now decided to go with Dr. Steven Hopson of Hampton. He is a great doctor. He was professional, knowledgeable, and friendly and funny at the same time. Not to mention that he's kind of cute ;). Anyway.... he's got the experience that I'm looking for... and the bedside manner that anyone wants from there physician. I'm excited and pleased to be involved with this surgeon. I truely believe I'm in wonderful hands.

My first impression of him was excellent. He was very caring and understanding. He assured me that he would do all that he could to assist me to have the surgery approved. My opinion of him is still growing. The office staff was friendly and receptive to my needs. I have one more appointment with him prior to the surgery. I will be given the majority of my information then. I have only been seen for the initial consultation. I was very impressed with Dr. Hopson in that one visit. He covered many of the high points related to the surgery during the consultation. He talked about the procedure, risks, lifestyle changes, etc. He also told me that I would have a more extensive appointment with him when I was approved. He and the office staff took care of attaining the approval. I did not have to get involved in that aspect at all. I have yet to experience his surgical expertise, but I have total faith in his ability. He has excellent bedside manner. I felt totally comfortable with him, which is rare with most physicians/surgeons. I would definately recommend him to a friend. I will be sure to comment on his surgical skill after my surgery next week. If there are any negative aspects, I can assure you that I won't hold back. As I said, I have only had the consultation up to this point. Stay tuned.
