Steven Fowler Bariatric Surgeon M.D.

My first impression of Dr. Fowler was suprised how young he was. He was having a seminar about weight loss surgery. He made a great impression on me and over the next few months, I knew I had made a great choice in a bariatric surgeon. His team and the Surgical Weight Loss Institute at Castle are the best. I come off as shy, but they made me feel part of an Ohana (family).
On our post op appointment, I was really nervous, but as soon as we said hello, and I felt like we were old friends again.
Dr. Fowler will not decide what surgery you should have, he will always tell you what options you have and he always let you decided. Half way through my journey before my surgery, I changed my mind on what kind o procedure to have. Dr. Fowler and his team were very understanding and helped me adjust to my new descision.
His team has always let me know that my surgery was not the magic pill on weight loss. I know that it will take alot on my part to lose weight, a good regimne of nutritional food and exercise will help me have the long term goal of weight loss
In our Post op appointment Dr. Fowler laid down all the facts about my surgery, we went through all the pro's and con's of having weight loss surgery.
If I had to rate Dr. Fowler on a scale from 1-10 he is defeneitly an 15, above and beyond.
If I had to choose surgical competence or bedside manner, I would choose both. I beleive you have to have both in order to survive weight loss surgery.

I give Dr. Fowler and staff an A++!! The Weight Loss team that work with him at Castle Medical Center are fabulous!! They are positive and informative and just all around wonderful!! Dr. Fowler and his staff make sure you are very knowledgeable on the entire process before, during and after!! I will highly recommend him to anyone in need of WLS in Hawaii!! Thank you to all of you!!

Dr. Fowler is very personable. I only met with him once for my consult and went to his seminar as he explained the different types of surgeries he does and answered questions. He's very easy to talk to, and after meeting with him, I knew that I definitely wanted him to perform my surgery. He also has THE softest hands I ever felt on a man. LOL. :-)

My first impression of Dr. Fowler was "holy cow, he's skinny!" In my first consult, I felt he was a little bit abrupt, but I know that he has a certain amount of time for each patient so I didn't take it personally even though I was a little irritated about it. However, at all subsequent meetings, particularly on the day after surgery, he won me over. He specializes in bariatric surgery which made me feel comfortable. His pre and after care staff is the best! My primary care doctor referred me to Dr. Fowler in large part because of the aftercare program. Without question, I would recommend Dr. Fowler and the Weight Loss Team at Castle Medical Center in Kailua, Hawaii.

I think Dr. Fowler is a very nice surgeon, not to mention very handsome. I have only met him 3 times so far but he was very informative all 3 times. I hope that he continues to be a caring surgeon throughout this whole process, we shall see. He has a very good aftercare program from what I can see. He has all the experienced staff who are very helpful and friendly. The only thing I wish he had more of was more support groups here on Maui. He says that he is working on organizing a clinic here so that in the future, we hopefully wont have to go to Oahu for our appointments and such. I also wish they had more accomadations for outer island people such as hotel and shuttles. Right now, they don't. But maybe someday soon. But the good news is that they will soon be recognized as a Center of Excellence in a few months (2009). They are in \"Provisional Status\" right now. I would recommend Dr. Folwer to anyone wanting this surgery.

Dr. Fowler is wonderful. He is kind and caring. I have had no problems with him at all and I highly reccommend him and his staff at Castle Wellness Center.rnrnFollow up - 6+ weeks out. I cannot say enough good about Dr. Fowler. He is such a sweetheart. He listens and cares. And he's really gentle with the fills! Gotta love that!rnrnHis program coordinator, Jennifer, is very organized, caring and helpful. I've only been to one of the monthly support groups so far, and I was impressed!!

Dr. Fowler is a young, attractive, outgoing and energetic surgeon. With every encounter with Dr. Fowler, I only gained confidence in him as well as his abilities.rnEveryone associated with the Surgical Weight Loss Institute at Castle Medical Center was awesome. They were encouraging and helpful. Everything was personalized to me.rnThe only thing I don't like about Dr. Fowler is that he isn't in his Kailua office enough!rnFuture patients should understand that Dr. Fowler is very skilled and knowledgable about bariatric surgery. This area is his chosen field and he likes to help obese patients.rnDr. Fowler insists on the comprehensive aftercare plan with the physical therapist, personal trainer, dietiican, and program coordinator. rnDr. Fowler addressed all risks of the surgery very well, and answered any and all questions I had.rnOverall, Dr. Fowler is excellent. I would highly recommend him to anyone serious about improving their health through bariatric surgery.rnDr. Fowler's surgical competence and bedside manner are both outstanding.
