DR Slikkers is An Excellent Surgon Hands down but............. After all the talk about the follow through and how important it is to do all the right things I Find it real Funny that the Dr will allow his practice to dismiss you after only a short 9 mo after surgery, due to billing issues. Now have a devise in body Lap Band with no one following it and not finding any surgon that wants to take on someone who has already had procedure done by another Dr. Leaves you out there with no help?? Better have the discussion with Dr about this or it could be you!!!! No wonder there are so many Law suits for malpractice.
Dr Slikkers, so far has been amazing. Very informative and makes sure you know what you are getting into. Gives you the \"good and the bad\". Explains what you may have questions about and is very friendly. I would definately recommend to anyone!! so far i have not experienced anything that would be considered negative!
I met Dr. Slikkers before i even thought that maybe WLS was right for me. He was my moms surgeon, and i had went to her six month checkup with her. rnrnWhen i went for my own appointment over a year later, i understood why my Mom liked him so much. He is extremely informative, and can connect to each person on a level they understand. I'm going towards a nursing degree in College, and i liked that he went into exact detail of everything that was going to be done for me. rnrnHis staff is absolutely amazing!! There are three, possibly four surgeons at Munson Medical for Bariatric Surgery. THe staff is a huge reason i decided to pick Dr. Slikkers, they are very helpful and friendly and one of their staff was the first patient there so she is good to relate to, and she can give advice. rnrnI appreciate that Dr. Slikkers gives you all the information, positive and negative about each surgery and why one might or might not be better for me personally, but he leaves the decision completely up to the patient. The first surgeon i met with at another facility really pushed only one type of surgery on the patients without considering each individual person. rnrnI completely reccomend checking out Munson Medical as a place to have your surgery.
wow great guy I have great faith in him, he is so very nice. treated me with respect and gave me dignity that I rarely encounter with medical professionals, I was actually very impressed with the whole medical team at munsen medical centre. I am still waiting for tests and a surgury date but he was able to answer all my questions and he put me completly at ease.he was wonderful and came to see me right before surgury right after surgury and later that day , he was so awesome so gentle and so kind and reachable.when my pain meds where making me nauseated he was around to change them right away. he took my drain out himself to save me a five hour drive for just a drain removal. over all he is my new hero I could not have been in better hands I would recommend him and his whole clinic and team to anyone anywhere.Hands down the best surgeon/person I have met in the medical field.
I met Dr. Slikkers in June 2005 and had a lap RNY in October 2005...this was the beginning of a great relationship and I named my first 100 pounds after him...Steven. He is a talented, personable surgeon with a very kind, respectful bedside manner. He has a great sense of humour, which is an essential characteristic in any health care provider I have. He has been supportive and realistic re my weight loss. He is very knowledgeable and will seek an answer if he doesn't have one. I would refer family and friends to him or any of the other surgeons at Grand Traverse Surgery, Dr. Nizzi and Dr. Featherstone, without any hesitation. It is great to be able to reach one of the bariatric surgeons at all times, day or night, weekends etc. I live 4 hours away from Traverse City but if I ran into problems and needed to go to an ER here in my hometown, one of these docs would be willing and able to talk with a local doc.rnrnI do know Dr. Slikkers is human...but I think that is what makes him special.rnrn
My first impression was that he was confident in his skills and that he might be a little bored with the education process, but I'm sure he cares about his patients.rnMore and more I see that he is a surgeon that is available to his patients. The hospital he works through has a very tight program. You can usually get a hold of someone that can help you through whatever and if not they pass the message along.rnThe staff was, and is, wonderful.rnI would tell a new patient not to be afraid to ask questions and discuss the pros and cons of any of the surgeries he performs.rnAftercare is huge with Munson Medical Center. They tell you to be prepared for a life time of aftercare. You don't go into any procedure thinking it's a quick fix and now you're on your own. They arrange follow up visits and expect you will keep up your end of the bargin.rnrnIf how I felt after the surgery is any indication of Dr. Slikkers' competency, he's a great surgeon.
