Ms Jeanne728, I am considering getting surgery and have been doing research on doctors, I went to the place you suggested on the Texas site, you are completely wrong about the report on Todd McCarty, at the top of that page you read FIRST that all of those reviews are about 92 different physicians, THEN they break each ones disciplines down with their names next to what they were reprimanded for, "inadequate communications with patients" excuse me but doctors get very busy and work long hours, this can sometimes be the case for any doctor, BIG FRICKEN DEAL!!! I have read so many great thing about Doctor McCarty, and I am going forward with using him as my surgeon. With ANY DOCTOR ANYWHERE you will have at least a handful of unsatisfied people who did not get enough attention because of their workloads, your happened to be one of them, but don't try and ruin his rep just because you are a self absorbed brat
...Mr McCarty's report was the following, copy and paste from the site you mentioned...

McCARTY, TODD MASON, M.D., Lic. #J0108, Dallas, TX
On June 27, 2008, the Board and Dr. McCarty entered into an Agreed Order requiring that Dr. McCarty attend 10 hours of continuing medical education in patient communication and pay an administrative penalty of $5,000. The order was based on Dr. McCarty’s failure to adequately communicate with, or respond to communications from, a patient and patient’s family during the period she was hospitalized for surgery.

I was told by a dermatoligst I had stage 3 Melanoma and might live one year, I was a little over 7 months. I had to have my baby right away, in walks Dr.McCarty he been working all day it was about 8 pm. I had never met him before. He said that this was his first trip to Delivery. He made me laugh. Then he said, Trish I have reviewed your medical records and your Melanoma is Stage 1, we will do invasive wide local excision and take out the necessary lymp nodes. He and his staff took excellent care of me. He checked on me 2x daily or more. That way nearly 11 years ago. I celebrate my remission when my daughter was born May 2, 2005.

Since then he has done emergency surgey on me to remove my gall blader, I was in the hospital from the posion of waiting so long to find out what was wrong. I called gave symptons and he said get right to the hospital now. He did the surgery and he checked on my daily. He is wonderful. Caring and well Spoken.

I had gastric bypass, a success he took excellent care of me and checked on me daily.

I don't know this woman who is posting negative info about him, saying he was drunk....NO not my TODD MCCARTY. Never Ever did he act in an unproffesional way. Some people are out for money.

My next surgery is Jan 8, 2013...Yes Dr.Mcarty will be doing it, I googled him found his new office went in and he dx me with exactly what was wrong. I told him after I hugged him, that if I was going to have to have surgery only he could do it. I've been his patient for nearly 11 years.

So Dr. McCarty could have gone home to his family the night he came to labor and delivery, but no, he came to check on me and tell me he said I would live.

I don't care what this woman night owl is posting but it's not true it does not say he was drinking. She is what I call a SUE your Doctor for money. He is nothing she decribes. I stand true to Dr. McCarty, excellent doctor with great bed side manner.

Dr McCarty was my Dr in 2006 and is now my doctor in 2012. He is probably the most "sincere" and "down to earth" doctor I have ever met...now. He is one of the most knowledgable and talented doctors in this area, PERIOD. I find the judgemental comments about his past coming from this community deplorible. We, who don't want to be be judged are the first to jump out and be judge and jury?? Really??? I challenge anyone who is looking for a doctor who really understands their struggle, body, mind and spirit to make an appointment with him. If you want someone who is not just cold and clinical, where you are not just an insurance number...this is the doctor to call.

I had my gastric by pass a long time ago. I was very scarced. It was my very first surgery ever.
I would have Dr McCarty do my surgery again tomorrow, if need be. He changed my life in a good way. I will never forget him.
Thank you, after all these years.

My how times have changed. My surgeon, my hero let me down. I thought he lost his license, but he has started practicing again. I would love to hear from others who suffered bad experiences with Dr. McCarty. We have got to stop him!

He did not bypass me enough and I quit losing weight after a year. He would never admit it, but I never had the sense of a small pouch and being able to eat only a few bites.

Finally, he said he would put a band over the pouch. Sounded like a good idea. Only problem, he put it too low and he could never get into in the port. Wanted me to go to the surgery center where the insurance was charged $5,000 for a fill! After the surgery, he never talked to me or my husband. The hospital did not know what to do with me. I had to call his associate to get a doctor to release me from the hospital. He didn't even leave orders for pain meds.

I lived in Austin; I couldn't stick around Dallas to try to catch him in his office. I tried to call, but the great doctor does NOT talk to patients on the phone.

I found a doctor in Austin who tried to move the port up higher. He never could get enough fluid in it to do any good. And who taught him? You guessed it! The great Dr. McCarty.

I feel so let down and now I find that Dr. McCarty is practicing again in Dallas in a new location. He would not speak to me on the phone, his office manager would not speak to me. I get an email telling me that if I was not happy to call his lawyer! All I wanted to do was talk to somebody in the office. Who refers people who attempt to call their doctor to contact a lawyer??? I am not considered his patient anymore. He has no file on me.

Of course he does not have a file. He was told to leave Baylor after problems with alcohol. I thought he lost his license, but after doing some research he received a "slap on the hand", a small fine and now he gets to "practice" again. Some lady got $5,000 and when I read her complaint, he could have been written by me.

If you have had similar problems, please, email me at [email protected]. There could be help in numbers. Please think twice before you consider you letting this doctor help you.

He WAS great, but something snapped and he changed. It is documented on the Texas Physician website.

Please contact me.

My first impression was through e-mail. I was excited that he answered me within a few hours.

First meeting in office was terrific. This is a doctor who truly cares for his patients and is a Christian! He is also oncological surgeon who is familiar with the cancer that I have had since March 1, 1995.

His office coordinator, Chris Arrowsmith, is very helpful. He either talks to me on the phone or is very helpful in e-mail.

There is a Baylor support group that involves the doctors and patients from Baylor.

On a scale of 1-10, I would give Dr. McCarty an 11, if I could!!! He saved my life. He is surgically competent and has a wonderful bedside manner. I have never met anyone who doesn't think he's the best.

Only negative comment: not very comfortable with the lady who schedules the surgeries.

My name is Cora, and on 9/15/09 I had a RNY. My presurgery weight was 236 and this morning, my weight is at 189.I have so much to be thankful for. My surgeon has given me a new lease on life. Unless you have a problem with obesity, you will never know what having a doctor who specializes in your specific needs can mean to you. I found that in my doctor. He answered every question and believe me I had several. He laid out every detail of the surgery, the good, the bad and the ugly. He offered all the alternatives and explained each option. He was there from the day I walked into the office 5/21/08 and has been there for me since my surgery. The staff in his office are down right embracable. I could never have gotten this far without them. I give thanks for these very caring people. God bless you all.

My first impression of Dr. McCarty was that he was VERY knowledgeable with a sense of humor, he was soo informative that by the time I got to my appointment with him I had no questions. His office staff was awesome!!! They helped me through the process, and are there for me if I need them!! I love them all!!! One of the reasons I chose Dr. McCarty was he wants you to not only go thru your insurance plans guidelines, you also has to go thru his in order to have the surgery, I was going to go to another place in Dallas and even though they were nice and informative also it seemed as if they wanted to get u in and out, Dr. McCarty makes sure you understand the importance of aftercare as well as using the tool properly he has given me for long term with after care programs, classes and meetings. His office and his curriculum is VERY organized!!! And VERY informative!! I had an AWESOME experience with Dr. McCarty!!! He is one of THE best!!! THANK YOU DR. MCCARTY FOR GIVING ME THE TOOL THE GET MY LIFE BACK!!!

First impression- He was very confident and he has a good reason for it. That impression only continued when I saw statistics about his results and his very knowledgeable and professional staff. They are always friendly, warm and helpful. I liked everything about him and the staff. He is very well-spoken and self-confident. Some people could think that he is arrogant, but they would be wrong because he is actually just very smart and capable and expresses himself forthrightly. His clinic has a very well defined aftercare program that is helpful. He explained to me all of the risks very clearly and put it in writing too. I believe his surgical competence is great. I have had no negative experiences with him or his staff.

First impression at seminar: Wonderful doctor
Impression at appt: Made me feel very comfortable, very easy going
Impression at surgery: Saw him before, he talked to my family after & saw him next day
Impression with follow up visits: I had quite alot of complications and at first he was very helpful and took his time with me. He was always positive throughout everything. As my complications got more complicated, I saw less and less of him, at times during hospital stays, I didn't see him at all. He's a great surgeon technically, but I won't go back to him due to MY IMPRESSION of him being just too busy with new paitents, teaching, oncology practice, etc. I, like many others, did not see much or any of Dr. McCarty on surgery day or right after. Unfortunately, I was too busy fighting for my life to file any litigation within the 2 yr. time limit here in Texas. I've had several lawyers say I had a very good case, but just waited too long. I have since learned that there are quite a few of us in that same situation, and at least one time in the last year, he was censured by the Texas Medical Board (it's on the Tx. Med Board website). He is no longer with Baylor Medical Center, and I hope he has stopped, slowed down, and thought about his treatment or lack thereof of for former, current and future patients. He is an oncologist and general surgeon, so maybe he has stopped weight loss surgery. Either way, I hope he has a better handle on things. THIS EXPRESSES MY IMPRESSIONS, THOUGHTS, FEELINGS, AND I ONLY STATED FACTS THAT I CAN BACK-UP. You can see other "unhappy" people both here and at the Baylor yahoo support group(s), the Dr.'s group website has posted about Dr. McCarty leaving the group, and you can check the Texas Medical Review Board website for the censure information. This in NO WAY reflects the care you may have been given or will be given, this is MY OPINION ONLY. I have since found out that Dr. Todd McCarty has lost his medical license due to his continual refusal to comply with an order for him to stop abusing alcohol, illegal & prescription drugs. He failed soberity tests, failed to pay for such tests & was then arrested for DUI. This information is a PUBLIC RECORD on the Texas State Medical Board Review. In NO way do I know or am saying that Dr. McCarty had these problems while I was in his care.

On my first visit, I did paperwork/met the PA. Dr. McCarty came in, reassured me,he answered 3 or 4 questions, and left. I did follow up and had surgery. I was impressed and encouraged.
This was when my my oppion began to change... I did not see him before surgery, during my stay in the hospital (2 nights) nor did he dismiss me...another doctor did it for him, as he was going on vacation...I did my follow up appointments, a yearly visit for 2 following years, AND NEVER SAW THE DR. AGAIN...NOT ONE TIME except for the 4 minutes from the first visit!!! Never got a call, was never given information that I could attend classes/workshops in Waco (one hour from my home) even after I asked and explained I lived 2 1/2 hours from Dallas. No effort to remind me of visits, follow calls about blood work, or even a how are you doing after 4 years...My 5 friends from my workplace used DR. BARKER in dallas one year after my "Successful surgery", one has used my doctor...the other five have been very successful, confident with their doctor and his staff and have kept weight off...the other two of us, felt betrayed and have had no support system. yes and have gained weight. I don't feel I can call MY doctor, as he and his staff are useless with info and professionalism.
