I've decided to switch surgeons because my previous surgeon does not offer laparacopic RNY. I'm excited about meeting Dr. Curry, and have heard many very nice things about him. I can't wait! I'm so ready for this!

5/21/04- I met with Dr. Curry and his staff today and, I definately feel like I made the right decision. They were all very personable, and made me feel comfortable. I thank them very much for that. I'm so excited, and way beyond ready! Dr. Curry said, if all goes smoothly, we may be able to do this in August! How exciting is that?!! I just pray that I can lose about 60-70 lbs. so I can have it done lap. Well, will try to update at a later date.

I met with Dr. Curry, his nurses and his dietician about 6 weeks ago. All in his office were very pleasant, professional, knowledgeable and personable. Dr. Curry spent all the time I needed with him, asked appropriate questions of me, and had answers for all my questions. He was very clear as to the possible risks of surgery, as well as the benefits of a successful surgery.

I have another appointment with Erin(?), the dietician, for the first week of May. My understanding is that this is a 2-hour visit to discuss my diet after the surgery, what my nutritional needs will be and how to make sure nutritional intake is adequate, and that I will come away with some homework.

I meet with Dr. Curry and Erin again about mid-May. I'll post as to how these visits go once they're complete.

So far I'd rate Dr. Curry and his staff fairly well. I'll continue feedback as this process moves along.

I was very impressed by Dr. Curry. I have attended seminars by two other WL surgeons and he did the whole seminar himself. He did not leave it up to his staff. Dr. Curry answered questions in a knowledgable, pleasant manner and that let me know he is confident in his work and I feel quite comfortable with him. So far I think he is WONDERFUL!!!!!!!I was a bit disappointed that I did not get to meet the nutritionist when I went for my first office visit. Dr. Curry spent a lot of time with my husband and I and answered all of our questions. I did not feel rushed or unimportant. He addressed all of the risks of the lap RNY.

My first impression was positive. He's a young surgeon who has seen the difference WLS makes in his patients' lives and has decided to make it his main focus.

I understand he moved his practice from Greenville, OH to Cincinnati recently.

Although I have not received too much information about the pre-surgery requirements, I felt his dietitian was well-versed and would be of great (and positive) help.

I never felt any prejudice from any of his staff members only friendliness and a willingness to help.

Dr. Curry and his office staff were great. My surgery was done while he was still in Greenville, and I couldn't have asked for a better doctor. From the beginning, he was very understanding and comfortable to talk with. He was very good about making sure you understood all the possible complications, and what type of diets you would have to follow after surgery. The support group at Wayne Hospital in Greenville, which goes along with his program, has also been of tremendous help. I did have some complications after surgery. I was anemic, and had a few infections. My drain was also left in about five weeks, compared to the usual 1 1/2 weeks for most of his patients, due to excess drainage; However, from beginning to end, anytime I had a question, I could call his office and they would put me in contact with him. He even called me one day at home, just to make sure everything was going okay. I would highly recommend Dr. Curry to anyone looking into WLS.

Dr. Curry seems to be a very patient, understand surgeon. At first impression, he seems knowledgeable about different options available and willing to help with getting insurance approval. I felt very comfortable with him and didn't feel judged at all. His staff is also extremely pleasant to work with. I was able to get into the "clinic" within 2 days where I met with the nurse, dietician and Dr. Curry all within 1 hour!!

Aftercare was not discussed as of yet. Dr. Curry suggested we wait until we get pre-approval from the insurance company before we proceed with more pre-operative education, testing, etc.

Dr. Curry uses a notebook computer and sits right next to you to discuss the options available for WLS and points out the risks and benefits associated with each procedure. He then weighs the options of an open rou-en-y versus a laproscopic procedure.

His bedside manner seems great. Surgical competence will have to be researched further, but so far I am very impressed with the entire process. MORE TO COME!
