I truly loved Dr. Prachand . He made me feel as if I did not weigh 400#. He is a very caring doctor and explained every thing to me about the surgery including the risks. The office staff especially June was wonderful..No matter what kind of quwstion I had for them when I would call they always were very nice..He has a very nice staff.

I was very impressed by Dr. Prachand his name is very well known in wls feild. He was very professional and he looked me in the eye when he talked to me. I've delt mostly with June, she is very good she returns my calls answeres all my questions even the dumb ones. The nurses are also very polite I've not had any problem with other staff, even those outside the clinic area, have been helpful. Appointments have been made easily and prompt. I did a lot of the foot work before I even went in as far as my chart from the clinic I came from so it made things much quicker because I brought in a lot of my latest records with me. I was completly imformed of importance of follow up appointments and group meeting. I was given imformation on risk and we discused it again. I would rate him on a scale of 1-10 as a 9 only because no one is a 10. I'm still waiting for approval of my insurance so I can't coment on any surgery aspect.

Dr. Prachand and the entire staff at both UofC center for advanced medicine and hospital were absolutely wonderful. All of my before, during and after care issues were addressed completely. I felt incredibly well cared for and would recommend both this surgeon as well as the hospital to anyone and seeking bariatric surgery.

Dr. Prachand and his staff are very open, honest, caring, humerous. I met and talked with the doctor and he answered all of my questions. He thoroughly reviewed my medical history and answered all of my questions. He explained the process at the University of Chicago and what to expect. He also explained the surgery in detail, the Duodenal Switch and Roux-en-Y. He explained to me the differences in the surgeries and why I would be a good candidate. We also talked about the reasons why people gain weight back and the process for keeping it off. Follow-up appointments are made at 1, 2, 3weeks, 1 month, 3 month, 6 month, 1 year and annually thereafter. The doctor has a great bedside manner and seemed very non-judgemental, but very interested in my needs and thoughts and education. Overall I would rate the Doctor and staff 9 of 10. Only because no one is perfect.

I feel very comfortable with my choice of Dr. Prachand. He seemed to be a warm and caring person. His number one concern is for the safety and well being of his patients. He stresses aftercare and requires approx. 7 post-op visits within the first year.

Dr. Prachand was very friendly and informative. He answered all my question and didn't seem as if he was in a rush. He spent about 45 minutes with me going over the in and out of this procedure. He listened to everything I had to say.

His office staff was wonderful, including the appointment scheduler. His nurse Kim was very polite and helpful to me. The coordinator of the program was very informative and helpful as well. I recommend you check this doctor and his staff out, if you don't have a doctor yet.

Everyone is well informed about everything with the program, and everyone is on the same page. They addressed all the pros and cons of the surgery, and the aftercare.

I think this doctor is excellent.

He explained how long he has been doing it and what he thinks your best options are. He stated that if he didn't think this would be good for you he would suggest that you do.

My first impression of Dr. Prachand was how
young he seemed. I thought about the short time
he had been performing this operation and wondered
if I was making a mistake. However, I looked up his resume
and bio on the University of Chicago website
and found his credentials quite impressive.
My impression of him changed over time because he
was very forthcoming as I asked questions (no
matter how foolish I thought they were) and
he has an extremely pleasant personality and
great bedside manner. Dr. Prachand's office
staff is knowledgeable and extremely helpful
and accessible. I could not find one reason to
dislike Dr. Prachand. That they are in good
hands and that all their options will be
explained thoroughly to them. Big on aftercare.
U of C has a support group for aftercare and
staff lets you know they are always available. Dr.
Prachand did a great job of addressing the risks
of surgery. On a scale of 1 to 10, I would
rate Dr. Prachand a 10. I think Dr. Prachand
possesses a great combination of surgical
competence and bedside manner. You feel like
your whole self is being treated.

Dr.Prachand is absolutely wonderful. He spent alot of time with me and was very thorough. He answered all of my questions, and he did not seem like he was in a hurry. He explained everything to me from pre op to post op and beyond. He told me exactly what is going to happen in the OR and the risks. Without scaring the crap out of me. His staff was wonderful and very patient. Everything is very organized and they don't keep you waiting.

Dr. Prachand just started doing bariatic surgery at the University of Chicago this year (2002), although he has performed over 40 bariatric surgeries. Even so I had to go on a waiting list for an appointment. I personally prefer doctors who are good listeners and who freely answer questions (mainly because I am a talker and I always have lots of questions). Dr. Prachand is an excellent doctor. I really can't say enough good things about him. He was patient. He listened. He answered all questions, even those which got into the specifics of the surgical procedures. He understood the emotions I was going through prior to surgery (anyone who says they are not scared silly is probably not a good candidate for this surgery; it is a very serious operation). He went through the risks associated with the surgery twice; when I had my first consultation with him and again when I came in for my consent meeting. Because I had previous abdominal surgery he explained that I was not a good candidate for a laproscopic procedure, but he would start as a lap and convert to an open if necessary.

Dr. Prachand is an excellent surgeon with a great bedside manner; a combination I did not expect.

The staff at University of Chicago Hospital was very competent.

After surgery I had no complications. Dr. Prachand emphasizes exercise and being as active as possible.
