When diet and exercise on their own have not worked, or you’ve developed life-threatening medical issues because of your excess weight, it may be time to consider weight loss surgery. Gastrointestinal surgery for obesity, also called bariatric surgery, changes the digestive process by limiting how much you eat and changing how your body metabolizes food. At the Center for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (CMBS) at Brigham and Women's Hospital (BWH), we provide patients with compassionate care and comprehensive metabolic and bariatric surgery options—helping men and women achieve healthier, more active lives. CMBS has been nationally accredited as a comprehensive bariatric surgery center since 2006. We are currently accredited through the Metabolic and Bariatric Accreditation and Quality Improvement Program (MBSAQIP). Together, we create personalized plans that meet patients’ individual needs, taking into consideration lifestyle, health and emotional issues and weight loss goals. We offer minimally invasive surgery, options including laparoscopic and robotic-assisted procedures at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston and Brigham and Women’s Faulkner Hospital in Jamaica Plain. We see patients for appointments before and after surgery at these locations as well as at Brigham and Women's Surgical Asocciates at South Shore in Weymouth MA.
