Medical City Dallas Hospital
The staff at the hospital was very friendly and helpful. The only complaint I have about the hospital is that they had me bring my CPAP and told me they would set it up for me while I was in recovery, they didn't. I couldn't rest at all while I was in recovery because I would quit breathing and the alarm would go off or my heart rate would fall into the low 40's or 30's and the alarm would go off. I asked about the CPAP machine and they said I would be going to a room soon so they would just set it up there. It was several hours before I did get into a room so I was pretty worn down by the time I got there. When I got to the room and asked about getting the CPAP machine set up, they said they would have to call respiratory therapy and have someone inspect the machine and set it up. Meanwhile my heart rate kept fluctuacting and going very low. It wasn't until my surgeon came in to see me that evening and the nurse asked her about my heart rate being so low that my doctor told her it was because I didn't have my CPAP machine and they needed to get it set up that anything was done about it.
The nursing staff for the most part was excellent. The PCSs with the exception of 2 left a lot to be desired. Night shift MUST coordinate their actions. I was awakened 4 times in a hour because the RN and the PCA needed to do things. First it would be the PCA doing vital signs, twenty minutes later back to do the glucose check, then the RN would come in, then Respiratory therapy would come in. I had to leave the hospital to get any rest. Beautiful facility. Several of the RNs were outstanding. Ruby, William, Kacy, Rey, Beverly all wonderful nurses. Even with the lack of coordination on the part of the RNs and the PCA's I would recommend this facility for surgery.
The Dr.s, the PCA's, the respiratory staff, the anesthesiologists, All great staff. I hate the way they "distribute nurses" like a roullette wheel. Never knew who was coming in next. I prayed I would get a "good one" William, Ryan, Anna, Anita, they are the cream of the crop, I feel. The best PCA's are Fassica, and Donna. Donna had more heart and compassion, as a PCA and made me feel at home than any other PCA there did.
The only issue I had during my hospital stay was with a very rude x-ray tech. She is an African-American woman in her 30's or 40's and was extremely rude. I was waiting outside of the x-ray room, bracing my stomach with a pillow like my surgeon instructed us too. When she came out to get me, she grabbed the pillow away from me and told me it get up with out it because I couldn't take a pillow with me everywhere I went. We exchanged words back and forth until I was at the point of tears. She was very rough with me during the x-ray session. A few days later I had to go back for more x-rays and I was so relieved to see that someone else came out to get me this time. Well, I ended up not being so lucky. The crazy lady came into the room and told that tech that she would do this one. As soon as they walked out, she yanked my pillow away from me. She obviously has issues. Beware of the crazy x-ray tech!!
The day nurse was wonderful...the night nurse was the worst I've ever had. She was rude, and slow and unaccomidating. She did not regularly was her hands and replaced my cathiter that had fallen on the ground without washing it off, this led to a urinary tract infection. She was unattentive and seemed put by any complaints I had, like the difficulty urinating. I hope to never have to have her as a nurse again.
