NYUMC Hospital
I felt well cared for by all the staff that I had interactions with on the day of surgery until discharge.
The preop medical clearance procedure was atrocious but it's just one day and you never have to deal with them again! I felt it was a good tradeoff since there was nothing invasive being done by them besides bloodwork.
Very nice staff and had a great experience. I was not in much pain, but they rushed to give me pain meds as soon as I asked. I didn't know what to expect, but I was surprised about the individualized care in the recovery room, there was a nurse sitting next to me watching me the whole time (and I'm healthy, and had an easy surgery/recovery with no complications at all) I had thought that they'd be walkign around having a couple nurses for all the patients, but I had my own for the two hours I was there. They brought me upstairs after giving me pain meds in the recovery room and it was nice and quiet and they were very attentive to my needs. I don't know the names of all the staff members there, but there was a nurse named Ayelet who was exceptionally nice, the others were too, but she was my nurse and that's the only name I remember. The only complaint I had was that they didn't tell waiting family members when the surgery was over. I'm not sure if it's their fault or the surgeons fault, but they finally came looking for me four hours after I went into a half hour procedure. I had asked for them in the recovery room, but for some reason, despite the fact that they were so nice and courteous in every other aspect of my care, they did not tell the family, and I saw that was the same with the other patients there. The families had to come looking for them, hours after they were in their room, which was after two hours in the recovery room. I would definitely recommend NYU to anyone considering surgery, and would go there again if I required any sort of revision.
