Pendleton Memorial Methodist Hosptial Hospital
My ICU stay was atrocious. I wasn't even given a callbell. The nurses didn't want to be bothered. Most are from out of state and drive in to work so no continuity of care. I contracted a wound infection before I left the hospital. The hospital was filthy, very little housekeeping and trash cans overflowing everywhere. I will not return there, nor send anyone I care about.
Security is a weak link. My wife's purse was stolen while we were sleeping in the hospital room; it was less than five feet from us. Be very careful with security issues. Always get a security escort to your car after dark. DEMAND that hospital personnel KEEP your room door completely closed. In the night when they came to do vitals the door often doesn't get shut all the way allowing visitors in the hall easy access to your room. Also be very wary of housekeeping, keep a close eye on them during cleaning.
Each and every nurse that came into my room was nice, sweet and attentive...ONCE THEY FINALLY GOT THERE! My needs were met physically, but sleep was elusive due to the noise and general discomfort of staying in the hospital. The nurses on the 3-11pm shift were loud and obnoxious, cutting up and whooping it up. It sounded as if they were watching a wrestling match outside of my room! At one point I needed help getting back into bed with the IV etc... I stood at the edge of my bed and cried because noone came to assist me. I sat in the chair by my bed and fell asleep for over an hour. NOONE ever came to check on me, because the IV was STILL beeping when I woke up. Also, they gave me ice chips right after the surgery, which is a no-no. They should have known better! If you have to stay in this hospital, I would definately arrange for a family member or someone to stay with you. The nurses are terribly overworked and although they are sweet as can be, they are often scarce.
