Pennsylvania Hospital Hospital
This hospital has had some pretty rough reviews and I went in a bit apprehensive. I found my experience to be excellent, with the exception of the rommate from hell the first evening but you can get that at any hospital.Felt very well cared for and found everyone to be quite pleasant.Although the hospital is very old they certainly do not lack any of today's advanced technology.
It's a fully staffed/fully equipped teaching hospital. However, it IS a city hospital, so there are no private rooms (I had an AWFUL roommate). I wish they would at least try to pair you up with another bariatic patient so you have something in common with the person you are in such intimate surroundings with. I was put with an elderly patient who was only semi-conscious with a very large, worried, LOUD family who stayed round the clock with her. This gave me very little privacy and quiet time which was difficult because the day after surgery is rough.
I had two big issues. One was the roommate from hell, and the other was the amount of time it took escort to get me from place to place. I was given approval to go to the support group since it was held the night after my surgery. Escort was called about 25 minutes before the class, and when they had not come nearly 50 minutes later (and while my roommate's family was physically threatening each other in the hallway!) I walked to the class, pushing a heavy IV pole with 2 pumps on it. Fortunately, one of the nurses going off duty offered to push it for me. (Thanks, Brian!)
