Dr. Amos was informative and hilarious. Informal and down to earth. Very quickly puts you at ease, knows a great deal about wls. Made sure I knew what I was about to do. If I have any issues after surgery I will be making appointments to see him.

Dr.Amos was a plesant man, he actually reminded me of one of my uncles. He was easy to talk to and he asked pertinent questions.

I was a few minutes late for the appt. so he appeared put-off at first, which I do not blame him at all for, my fault. But by the time we walked from the waiting room to his office, I felt totally at ease with him. He had a fantastic way about him to turn the whole "interview/assessment" into a very, very pleasant conversation and experience. I am in need of a counselor/psychologist from time to time, he gave me his card and I will definately be calling him when the time arises.

He is very direct. It's a little unsettling at first, but then you realize he's being real & not tip-toeing around questions & issues.

This was my first visit to a psychologist, I was fairly anxious, but I highly recommend Dr. Amos. Below is an excerpt from my WLS diary, it pertains to my visit with Dr. Amos.

Friday, October 22, 2004

This is the appointment I’ve been the most anxious about so far. I’ve never talked with a psychologist before, I really didn’t know what to expect. I thought it would be hours of written testing, ink blots and the like. My appointment was with Dr. Ed Amos. Good news for me, I got a letter from my insurance, all I have to pay is my $15.00 co-pay, and the $45.00 report fee, which will be submitted to my insurance company as part of the justification for WLS.

I arrived at Dr. Amos’ office a bit early, and filled out some paperwork (writers’ cramp set in). Then when it was time for the appointment, Dr. Amos said let’s chat.

I was almost disappointed, no chaise lounge to lay on, just a chair, and a love seat. When I asked about the “couch” Dr. Amos said I could sit anywhere I felt comfortable, even on the floor. I chose the chair. And we chatted, for about an hour.

Dr. Amos was very easy to talk with, I felt comfortable from the very beginning, and all of my anticipated anxiety was nowhere to be found. It was easy; he had a way of asking questions that wasn’t intrusive. Everything he asked me was calculated to see if I really understand what I am preparing for, the surgery, and everything that comes after. I feel that I understand what I’m about to do, I hope he feels that I’m ready too.

After our chat, I asked him if he thought I was a good candidate for WLS, he said that he would think about it.

I’ll call Dr. Woodman’s office in a couple of days to see if they have the report.
