Midnight Munchies

My biggest pre op issue was eating LATE at night. I would get the munchies at night and just want something to put in my mouth. Since surgery, my urge to snack was gone but its BACK! I have noticed the past 3 nights, I walk in the kitchen and look in the fridge. The first night, I ate 3 FF Pringles. The second night, I ate 1/2 a SF Jello cup and last night I ate a hunk of watermelon. This really scares me because I don't want to get in the habit of eating without really being hungry. I guess this is the head hunger I have heard people talk about. So, who else is experiancing head hunger at night ?? What do you eat if you get that urge to snack?? Kay

Hi Kay! I have been like that lately too! Recently, I've really tried to up my water so I make sure I drink if I feel hungry. I didn't feel satisfied with plain water, so I've added the Crystal Lite and its helping. Like right now, I'm having Raspberry Lemonade, YUM!

My nut suggest drinking more water when I have the urge to snack too. I guess I better start listening to what she told me.

I know I will get the munchies at night, so I figure that into my daily foods. Usually I have sf popcycles, sometimes 6 of them. They are liquid, so they add to my water for the day. I also have a protein drink at night too, that also helps. I don't think it is wrong, as long as I keep track of the calories and count them in at the beginning of the day. In fact, it has helped me up my calories from 600 to around 800, and the weight was coming off faster. Hit a snag, but I am hoping it will start again. If I only ate when I was hungry, I would only get about 3 or 400 calories a day.

I have noticed when I eat more durning the day and follow my surgeons rule of 2 protein shakes a day, I dont want to snack as much. It's so hard to eat more when I am not hungry durning the day. You would think I would have the hang of this by now. I usually turn to SF popsicles as well. I think I better go back to them so I wont make horrible choices.

**raising hand and jumping up and down** "I do, I do!!" I sware I could go all day without eating a bite but come 9pm I want to eat anythey and everything. I throw my diet out the window and want to eat carbs like no tomorrow. Last night I ate my pudding at 8pm and a low fat cheese stick close to midnight. I guess I have been doing ok making good choices. Ultimately, I wish I could overpower the urge and not eat anything though. Dawn

Kay this is definitely without a doubt, my downfall. I have been doing great with my weightloss, but i have been falling back into bad habits and it scares me. I have to force myself to eat something before noon time, but after 8pm the head hunger starts. I was making good choices, but lately i have been snacking on fritos, and sugar free milanos. I don't know what to do to make it go away! the drinking idea doesnt work for me, I have tried it. Any other suggestions would really be appreciated! Karyn

I have huge head hunger at night mainly because I'm bored. At the recommendation of someone at the Support Group I attend, I put an 8x10 sign on my frig that says "The answer is NOT in here!!!" It's worked for me this past week in keeping me out of the frig at night! Susan
