Protein question

Good morning I have been experimenting this morning with decaf and protein. I have read on some protein containers that you can't mix protein with liquids that are too hot because the protein will break down. Does anyone know the facts on this?? The protein I am using now does not say on the container. I just want to make sure I get all my protein in with my new creation. I used 16 oz. hot (not boiling) water, 1 1/2 scoops of cappuciano protein, 2 tsp. decaf and 1 splenda. It was YUMMY!! I'm on the way to see my surgeon ( 2 hours away) for my 4 months follow up. If I'm not back by 6 to post my menu post, thats why. Anyone can post for me if you don't mind. Dawn usually substitues for me so if your reading this, jump right in for me. LOL Thanks!!!! Have a great day. Kay

I believe if the protein breaks down, you will see a curdling effect in the drink. That was my understanding of it, but I could be wrong. Dame Tooter, on the main board, has a wonderful website that would answer that question for you. If you look, I know she posted last night. I would see what she says, she has done years of research and is pretty good. There are a few things that differ for me from what she has, like the type of calcium to take, but over all, it is good.

Kay, I mix 8oz of 1% milk with 1 scoop vanilla protein powder and shake it up, then I fill the container with black coffee. Yum, it is like drinking a french vanilla coffee. I do it this way because when I mix it with the coffee first it clumps on me! Good luck! ~~hugs and well wishes~~ Chris

Thanks Dawn!! I used instant coffee so I added 2 tsp. to 16 oz of ho****er then added the protein and splenda. It tasted just like a cappicuano (sp).Tomorrow I'm going to add a little CC. It was a good way to start my day with 16 oz of liquids. Kay

Hi Kay, I think it depends on the protein you use. I know that it happens with the unflavored unjury.l But I found the Any Whey protein and it was made to cook with. You can even bake wity it. You may want to give it a try. I have been making shakes with carnation instant breakfast and adding a scoop of the any whey and it's great. I got it on www.bariatriceating.com and just got a new supply it was on sale too. Regards and hugs, Ronna

I've never heard that the protein will break down, but I've had horrible experiences with it curdling. I like my hot drinks HOT, not luke warm, and I've never been able to mix one that satisfies my temperature requirement without it curdling Which cappucino protein mix did you use? I have the Nectar one and it hasn't worked for me. What was your secret??!! Lisa S.
