I have no real advice for you... but I can relate. My hair has been falling out like crazy. It did not start untill late in month 5 post-op. Snuck right up on me... I thought I was in the clear and then chunks started to come out. I have been slacking on the protein and the vits... which I am sure haven't helped. How many protein grams do you get daily? My doc advised that we get no less then 70g a day, and the closer to 100g the better. Hair loss is fickle. I hear it can happen if you have any major surgery (or trama to the body). So it may not be the diet at all. The good news is that I also hear that it stops and starts to grow back at about month 10 post-op.

Hi Brenda, We have touched on this subject MANY TIMES just look back on the older threads. First, I want to give you and let you know you are not alone. Many of us are going through a shedding period as well - I hate using the term hair loss The only thing that keeps me going is that EVERYONE says it DOES grow back. That we notice the loss more than others do. I've shedded quite a few strands of hair and I can see a difference around my hairline. I hate when I run my hands through my hair and extra strands come out and it's on the back of my shirts and on the bathroom floor blah blah blah. I'm taking a hair vitamin and extra biotin. I can't say it's helped but mentally it makes me feel better knowing I'm trying to do something to help things along. Most have said by 6 months out it should slow down so lets all PRAY we get passed this stage SOON!!! Hugs, Jean

Mine started falling out around 3 1/2 months. My surgeon told me that the only thing that I can do about it is up my protein and make sure I take all my vitamins everyday. Other than that, hairloss is to be expected because of the major surgery. The biotion has not helped me one bit. Hang in there. Hopefully it will stop soon! Kay

Hi Brenda, This started for me about 2 months ago. A few weeks ago I changed my multi vitamin to: Atkins Basic 3 Dietary Supplement. It has 300mg of Biotin and has helped so much with the hair loss. I also use the Nioxin shampoo, conditioner & hairspray. I now see a huge difference and I'm not lossing clumps anymore. Good luck, I know its frustrating. Carly

Hi Brenda, mine started about 3 1/2 months. I was really coming out a lot, but now has slowed down. My daughter's nut told her to take zinc, I have been on it for about a month and can see a difference. Don't know if the zinc is making a difference or not, but I see a difference in the past few weeks. Evewryone says the hair loss will come back, I am one that is hoping that also. Here's to HAIR-- Take care, Rosemary

Hi Everyone ... I don't post often but I do read the postings and have gotten a lot of good info from the group. So thanks to everyone! I had surgery on January 11 and to date have lost close almost 60 pounds. Last month I noticed the hair loss and have been looking on the net about it a lot. I have heard that zinc will help ... someone in my support group told me about this. I also found some info on a supplement that I just purchased today. Its called Puritan's Pride Silica Complex (it does have zinc in it). It is good for hair, skin and nails. I've also noticed that my nails break very easily lately, so I'm hoping it will help with both the nails and hair loss. The supplements don't cost a whole lot and the website was offering a "buy 1 get 2 free" bottles free. So I have ordered them and will let everyone know if they help. Debbie

Someone, maybe Jen? Showed us awhile back an article about iron and hair loss. So I upped my iron and it has been slowing down. Not as much everyday. And take those vitamins!

My doctor told me not to take any additional iron supplements ... just what is in my multi-vitamins. I have blood checks every 3 months and my doctor told me that if my iron was low, then she would have me take additional iron. My iron level was fine at my 3 month visit and I go back for my 6 month in late July. I wonder if maybe my iron levels could be low ... hmmm ... something to think about! It really seems that both supplements as well as food choices (what we can eat and can't eat) really varies from doctor to doctor! I talk the following supplements: Multi-vitamin (I get the Gummy multi-vitamins as I couldn't tolerate the chewables) B-12 supplement Calcium citrate supplement Prilosec OTC
