January Surgiversary Reunion - Vegas, Baby!
Hello everyone,
We are ready to rock and roll with the one-year Surgiversary!!
This is an event to meet your fellow January Surgery friends. EVERYONE IS WELCOME, even if you are a lurker or from another surgery date and have been hanging with us. In the spirit of WLS support, love, friendship and fun we will meet for a grand weekend in Las Vegas, 26-28 January 2007.
Where? Westin Casuarina Las Vegas
Dates? The room block covers 22 - 30 January 2007 in case you want a longer stay. The official event dates are Friday evening, 26 January to Sunday morning, 28 January.
Price? $169 per room, per night, plus 9% tax and a $2 per room per night housekeeping charge (its union rules that this is not built into the room rate, how annoying!!!). If you shop around consider any costs to get to our hotel. We need every reservation possible against our room block. The city is expected to sell out, I think you will find we have a very low and competitive rate.
Other?
**All guest rooms are 100% non smoking (this is the growing trend in LV)
**The hotel is two blocks off the strip right next to Bally's and Paris.
**This hotel is not Vegas glitzy although it is very posh and contemporary. There's a small casino and its not a gaming hotel. The point being its comfortable for everyone, even those not excited by a LV environment. (this is a big hint that I am trying to win over any LV adverse people!!)

How to book your hotel room? Two ways:
1) call the hotel at 1-866-837-4215 and book the "OH Jan WLS Reunion"
2) book online at http://www.starwoodmeeting.com/StarGroupsWeb/res?id=0606190076&key=3736E
You will need to provide either a one night deposit or a credit card number to hold your reservation. The credit card is not charged unless you dont show up or cancel appropriately. Cancellations must be made 48 hours in advance of the booked arrival date otherwise a one night room and tax is charged.
If you are sharing I suggest calling the hotel directly. Be prepared to have the names of both guests and be VERY SPECIFIC that you want to book a room with two beds. If you have any other special needs, call the hotel rather than book thru the website.
Check in is 4pm, check out is 11am.
Westin Hotels feature the "Heavenly Bed" which is a 10 layer high quality sleeping experience as well as the "Heavenly Showers" which are awesome. They also feature an extensive fitness center which is included in the guest room rate. You can get more detail about these on the website, www.westin.com/lasvegas
Need pampering? The hotel has an extensive spa. As long as 10 people have treatments we get 20% off all services; if its under 10 people we get a 10% discount. The spa menu is posted on the hotel website. To book the spa call Natalie at 702-836-9775 and be sure to mention our group name "OH Jan WLS Reunion" so we all get credit for the higher discount.
Discounted breakfast coupons will be provided to me and you can buy them from me at the event for $17 each which is a discount from their normal rate of $20.
We have booked a light reception for Friday evening, 26 January. I will work on a sponsor to eliminate/reduce costs. It is estimated that this will cost $50 per person and will include hors d'oeuvres and non alcoholic beverages, alcohol available at your own expense. If it costs money you will need to pay this upon arrival; your registration is agreement to pay this. This will be our official kick off to the weekend!!
Everyone is encouraged to look at www.vegas.com for ideas on what to do and lets share a positive exchange about what we see. The hotel concierge is gathering a list of shows/activities with a group discount. As the date gets closer we can decide what looks fun. Since tastes and preferences will vary, perhaps we can split up into smaller groups in the evenings so that everyone gets to enjoy their top choices and mingle with other partiers?? Nobody is hanging out alone!!!!
How to register? In addition to making your hotel reservation we need to know if you are attending. Ronna is our official Surgiversary secretary and handling all the tracking of who is attending. Pls send an email to Ronna eighteen (the number) at comcast dot net. (I spelled this out to avoid screen scrapers who pick up emails for spam). Or go thru her profile. We need to know:

T-shirts - Marsha Ann is leading our tshirt effort and promises we wont walk around town with a big bold "LOSER" branded across our chests 
. I believe we have a graphic artist amongst the group and discussions are taking place for an imprint of either a positive phoenix or a butterfly, both symbolising our rebirth. That's where we are at right now.
Final note: I have signed a legal agreement with financial obligations to this hotel. With that, I ask that we move forward with positive and happy spirits and that there is no more talk of cancelling, not attending or other noise not beneficial to the wonderful experience we have ahead. This event is for everyone!! And it WILL happen which is why I have taken on this responsibilty for our group of wonderful people.
Other ideas and input are welcomed. What other talents do we have in our team? Let your creative side show be it thru fun name badges, contests, awards, goals or treats baked with Splenda. 
I am sure lots of ideas will come forth and everyone is encouraged to get involved. I cant coordinate much more (and anything crafty I attempt looks really bad) so please take the lead and share your style of love with our fellow WLS'ers. Any signage, additional meeting room space or deliveries must be handled thru me.
I am sure I've forgotten something so put your questions out there. I cant wait to meet all of you and share the first year anniversary of our life transitions.
