It's me again. I'm being a post ***** this morning LOL I need some suggestions on dogs. I'll try to make this short. Last year, I had a poodle named oreo that I loved very much. I live in an appartment complex and a leash is a must so late at night, I'd take him outside and let him run without a leash for a little while before I went to bed. well a car hit him and I had to put my baby to sleep. OMG, I miss him so much. Anyway~ Lately I've been thinking about buying another poodle but everyone keeps telling me that I should get a different breed of dog because I will compare everything the new dog does to Oreo and I wont be able to "let go" of Oreo. I went to the pet store yesterday and the lady said the exact same thing. The thing is that I love poodles and would love a little white female this time. I also like Yorkies but the price for them is 1,200.00. WOW!! I also liked the Brision Frese (sp). Do you think it would be too hard on me to get another poodle or should I try another breed? What's your opinion on this. First a couple friends said another breed and I didn't think twice about it and then the pet store owner and a customer there said the same thing, it got me to thinking. I never thought loosing a dog would be so hard but It really is. Everything reminds me of him. At first I wasn't ready for another dog but now I think I am. Thanks for letting me ramble about something OT. Kay

I would first check your local humane society. Why pay hundreds of dollars for a dog when there are loving, caring animals just waiting to be adopted. Go there and fall in love with a dog regarless of breed. If it happens to be a poodle, go with it. If not, experience a new breed. Good luck.

If you love poodles so much get another poodle. Why don't you check out a Poodle Rescue organization. I'm a Siberian Husky person myself and have resuced twice through these organizations. They are great way to get wonderful dogs at a reasonable cost. My Hawley cost $150. Check it out!

Hi Kay! I'm so sorry about losing Oreo. I still deal with the pain of losing all of my show rabbits last summer, it will be a year July 15. But, I still raise my rabbits- English Spot. I raise them because I love the breed itself, yes, I miss my bunnies, especially my fave, Lean. But I take joy in the fact that he can be seen in all of his babies. Yeah, another poodle could remind you of Oreo, but I think that would be great! You can rememeber all the great times you had together! If I lost Midnight suddenly, I wouldn't think twice about getting another Pomeranian. Midnight has been the light in my life. She's right here now, I think she knows I'm talking about her because she wagging her tail and smiling lol... or else she just wants my eggs My first dog was from the pound. She was a german shepard/Australian shepard cross and her mother along with her 10 bros and sis were dropped off at the pound. Snickers was awesome. I haven't had the opportunity to get another cross, but if I could, I so would. I think its a personal decision, Kay. If it hurts too much, don't get a poodle (I'm in love with them too!!!!). What about a miniture or toy??? Those are different breeds, yet still poodles! HTH!! Jaci

HI Kay-Im sorry about Oreo its always difficult to loose a pet, I had to put my cat Nermal to sleep last year and I still miss him ALOT and wonder if I could ever get another cat however I am actually getting a 6 week old Shihtzu in 2 weeks-I have had several dogs from a ****er spaniel,a schnauzer, a golden lab and a mix the we adopted from the pound-they were all great dogs and I think it comes down to personal choice-I love the shihtzu breed because they dont get very big, they dont yap every 2 minutes like some toy breeds and they are soooooo loving and affecionate-I think they are the best of both worlds for me, a little cat and dog in one Either way you will know in your heart when the right one comes along whether it ends up being another poodle or not-good luck with your decision and I hope you become a new mommy soon Lori

I also have to vote for the local humane society or shelter. I picked a gorgeous American Eskimo from our shelter and he was the most obedient, loving animal. There ae tons of animals out there for less than $50.00 total that need homes...I am a huge advocate of shelters...

I'm sorry to hear about your Oreo. In my opinion, if you want to get a poodle, go for it. While the new pup might remind you of some sad times, the new pup will steal your heart in probably just a few minutes and you will make all kind of new memories. I think any breed will remind you of your beloved dog, but the sad place in your heart can be healed by puppy kisses! I have 2 shih tzu's and they are great dogs. They don't get too big and don't need a lot of space or exercise. They were bred just to be companions, so they just love people. I know I'm biased but if you are looking for a different breed than a poodle I would suggest a shih tzu. And I have one other piece of advice. If you do decide to get a new puppy, please try your local classified ads for a breeder rather than going to a pet store. You will definitely end up paying less from a small breeder and probably get a better quality dog. I know not all pet stores are the same, but some do get their pups from puppy mills in which the dogs live in really bad conditions. If you would like any information about shih tzu's, just write me and I will answer all questions you would have. Debbie
