Hello again-I always read the posts for what eveyone eats each day and I was wondering how many calories at 6.5 months out are we expected to be eating? I am asking because alot of times I notice some people are still eating only 500-600 and my nut advised me to be consuming at least 1000-1200 at this point-I am so confused at this point and dont want to be overeating and unfortunatley I dont get the full sensation that most talk about-example yesterday I was able to eat shy of two bites a half of a subway roasted chicken sub-I think thats too much especially with the bread-My doc advises us to still do shakes and eat small amounts 4x per day so I guess I am going to try to go back to eating 2oz at each meal and still do my 2 shakes per day and hopefully that will get me back on track and losing again-thanks for listening Lori

Everyone's calorie requirments are different. My advice is to follow whatever guidelines your nutritionist set up for you... About the amount of food you consume, it doesn't sound overly drastic to me... but, I have a rule that I will not eat more then 1/2 cup at a time. Even if I am not overly full, I stop there because I don't want to push the limits. Maybe just try doing that and then if you arn;t satified then drink a protein shake afterwards.

I eat more than almost anyone who posts here (and my weight loss is slower, so..., take this post as you will....). I eat around 1400 cals a day. So to me, it sounds like you're doing very well. I have been hungry since my surgery and never have had issues with not wanting to eat---weight loss is still a struggle (albeit easier) for me. As for your sub, I also can eat that much and have to slow myself down and stay with eating half now, half later. I'm going to work on reducing cals to 1200-1300 this week. It's natural to be eating more, however, we are now much lighter and healthier and should be moving more, too. That is my goal for myself----. My 2 cents! Cathy

I probably get 600-700 calories or so a day. My dr. doesn't have me count anything but protein and water. You would have to eat a lot of food to get too many calories. I don't eat bread very often, but didn't before surgery, either. I try to stick mostly to protein w/ a little carbs. Karla

Sounds like you are one who will need to measure your food. I know I can not eat anywhere near that amount of bread. I would take one side of the sandwich bread, tear it in half and in half again, put some meat and cheese and such on that and eat about 3 or 4 bites, then I will be full. Be careful. Just because you can eat it, you probubly shouldn't. Remember the bad habits you had before surgery and make sure you aren't falling back into them. I do eat bread, sometimes on tour that is all there is I will eat. I will choose bread over fried foods or sugar, not protein. I can only eat half a slice with Pbutter on it. The other thing is, how long did it take you to eat the sandwich? If it took you like 20 min., then you need to limit how long you will sit and eat. Because your stomaches have healed, food passes thru faster and we can eat more over time, because it starts to empty as we put more in. This can be dangerous. Sitting and snacking on a meal can get you in trouble. Follow your nuts instructions. My Doc only asked how much food I can eat at a time, which is maybe 3 oz. unless it is real thin, like wendy's chili. Heavier foods like meat and cheese I can sometimes eat less. I haven't really upped my food at a sitting since about 2 or 3 months out. I know I get over full if I am not careful, did that last night. I also get hungry, but an almond will curb that for me, or beef jerky. Are you still loosing weight? That is another point to look at. If you are, and it will start to slow down now, and as you get closer to your goal, but you should still be loosing. If you are, then you are fine.

Hi Lori If your nut says eat 1000 to 1200 calories a day then do exactly what she says. My surgeon doesn't want me to count calories. He just tells me to focus on getting 75 grams of protein a day. I usually get between 500 and 600 calories a day. I don't try to stay that low, I just eat whatever and it just happens that way. I could eat more to get the amount up but I'm satisfied with the amount that I'm eating now. My surgeon wants me to eat 3 small meals and 2 protein shakes as my snacks. I measure and weigh everything because I have noticed that I don't get as full as I use to. I'm afraid of overeating and scretching my pouch too soon so even if I'm not really full, I stop then have a protein shake later. For me it works. Everyone's plans are different so you just do what works for you and follow the advise of your surgeon and nut. Good luck kay

My suergon still wants me to focus on protein and fluids. But I have noticed that I am able to eat more than I could a couple of months ago. I do track what I eat in fitday.com and lately my average calorie intake is about 850 per day.
