Oh Dear!! Last Supper syndrome as got hold of me!!
I know it is stupid to think, I will never eat certian things again!! Especially since the DS will permit me to be back on solid foods in just 2 weeks time, but I keep thinking of foods I am gonna miss!! I am, sad to say, indulging in some whims and eating things I haven't had in a long while, simlply because it will be a while longer before I can have them again!!
I am trying not to just stuff myself. If I indulge in a food, I try to savor it and eat it with very little distractions. No longer am I eating a bag of chips infront of the TV with out really tasting them!! We have gone out to eat at a couple of our favorite places, but mostly I am trying to clean out the frige of perisables before we drive to Nashville for a 3+ weeks stay. Also cleaning out the cupboards of No-No's. Some really strange meals have been eaten in my house in the past 2 weeks!! Anything not consumed that is No-No's are going to the food basket at church for the needy and any parisables not finished off will go in the garbage!!
When I leave on the 8th for that drive to Nashville, I will be leaving with the knowledge that none of those foods that I can not have for sometime, are out of my house!!
So yes, I have indulged in a few "last suppers" Have you??

That is hilarious. My friend just came over tonight and said have you thought about what you want for the "last supper" and I laughed at that phrase. It represents Life (from Jesus) to me and prison to some. So it hit my funny bone. I hit my fave Chinese food tonight for the last time. I am getting down to the last week of eating real food for a while so I can relate. I am giving my niece all my no-no foods, she can use it.

Ok Kristie, we are too much alike. Me and my partner were talking about "last supper" yesterday. Since I see my surgeon on the 5th for the last time and I know he is going to put me on a diet, I decided to have my "last supper" last night. I picked Chinese food. We went to a great chinese resturant. This morning, I cleaned out the fridge and cabnits. All the bags of chips and cookies.. GONE! I told my partner if she wants something, she will have to go get a single serving size or keep it in her truck
This is truly going to be an adventure!

Tomorrow I start the full Protein liquid drinks until my surgery. Tonight I had my last real food. I had the perfect 7 ounce Filet Mignon with a piece of bacon wrapped around it. I do not think I have ever had such a great piece of steak before and I doubt I will ever have it again.
It was the perfect last food.

I have to admit that I was spared the long anticipation of my surgery. I was expecting to schedule for early April and instead had the scheduling nurse say, "Can you start the Optifast tomorrow?" So I said, "Yes." And we scheduled the surgery for 2 weeks and 1 day from my consult.
I am very grateful for that.
Though I did insist that my husband take me out for dinner so that my last meal that I am allowed to chew for a while could be something nice. We went to our favourite Thai restaurant and I had a delicious meal with a fair amount of sticky rice (which I know I'm unlikely to tolerate well after my surgery) and I said a temporary good-bye to chewing.
But I know if I had had weeks and weeks I might have fallen into the last meal mindset. It is no small mercy that I was spared that by a speedy scheduling!

Well, God certainly has a sense of humor and timing! I had planned a "last supper - New Year's Eve bash" for tonight. Unfortunely, I developed either food poisioning or a 24 hour stomach flu thing which left me heaving and going for the past day and a half. The thought of food makes me sick right now. The best laid plans....
I am a big salad eater and that's something I won't be able to have for awhile. So we have been making the rounds of my favorite resturants and I have been having salads:
Quasadilla Explosion at Chilli's
Pecan Crusted Chicken Salad at TGI Fridays
Asian Chop Chop Chicken Salad at Houlihan's
Get the pickture.
But that was before the holiday. My last real meal was Christmas at my cousins. Turkey with all the trimmins.
Oh how true, Surgery is Tuesday and I swear I have been eating all of my favorites because I know that for a long time there will be clears, softs and then little bits of chewing. I am gulping to my hearts content knowing that sipping is the road for the future.
Having a New Years Eve feast of all my favorite appetizers. Chicken wings, onion rings, mozzarella sticks, shrimp, brie, homemade cheese stuffed pretzels. A little of this and a little of that. January 2nd clears and then on the 3rd the beginning of the NEW ME.
Of course have had to go out to the favorite restaurants also. Fun, Fun. Still managed to lose a couple more pounds for the preop. Lets hope no weighing on the day of surgery.

I right in there with the rest of you, going thru cabinets and clearning out things I wont need in the future and cooking up items I wont tolerate in the future like brown rice.
I've also been going to my favorite restaurants, eating desert and enjoying other items I've typically stayed away from. After the New Year, though, I'm getting back to my better ways so I can make myself healthier for the big day. If it had not been for this board I would never have thought about fatty livers, problems with last minute weight gain and its effect on surgery.
Man, those jalepeno poppers were awesome!
In summary, its been a last week buffet rather than a last night supper but at this point I've had pretty much all the crap food I can endure.
I am trying to integrate better habits for the future, too, like sipping liquids and not drinking 15 minutes before or for an hour after food. And chewing things 30 times to pulverize them - it forces you to take smaller bites, I've learned. Also paying attention to the 'I'm full' queue and stopping eating.
