What in the heck was I thinking?
I'm on day 6 of this stupid liquid diet ... my husband and daughter have been living on mac & cheese and Lean Cuisine entrees. I know that my daughter is bored to tears with crap from a box. And honestly I hate knowing that she's eating that much rubbish.
So I cooked them a real dinner tonight. Poached seasoned chicken breasts in a Shiraz reduction, green beans and garlic mashed potatoes.
Now I'm sitting in the living room typing while they eat their dinner ... and for the first time in two days my stomach is churning so much that it actually hurts.
I know my doc has a reason for this. And I WILL do as he tells me. But I am not going to like it! So there!
Okay - rant/vent over. On with my regularly scheduled life.

Rosa -
No kidding! So far on this liquid pre-op diet (started Friday 12/30) I've lost 7 pounds. So I'm not going to complain too much.
But man am I bored with vanilla and chocolate! It so boring that I'm actually looking forward to the clear liquid phase so I can have some wonton soup broth and jello!
Hey - maybe that's why my docs insist on 2 weeks of Optifast before hand! To make you thankful for the 2 weeks of clear liquids they require after surgery. And then that is to make you thankful for the 2 weeks of full liquids. Which in its turn will make me thankful for 2 weeks of mushies. Which of course will make me thankful for solid foods!

Brandi-
I'm not on a clear liquid diet at the moment. I'm on an 800 calorie per day Optifast diet pre-op and I'm already drinking over 80 oz of fluid a day - not including the 40 ounces of Optifast.
I have a list of what is allowed on the clear liquid diet ... and believe it or not I'm actually looking forward to the clear liquid stage. At least then I won't restricted to just 800 calories.
Of course - I don't think that anyone can live on liquids alone for any length of time and not be tempted by the smells of solid food. I didn't eat any of it ... I just wanted to.
Well, I am also on a pre-op diet. I am on my 6th day of an Optifast diet but I am having a hard time even getting one serving down. I HATE the taste of it and get about half of it finished and then it starts to make me feel sick to my stomach. Anyone else having this problem with the Optifast. I have tried several different things added to it but still not much better. I can't wait for the liquid phase! I would just die for a cup of broth right now! My doctor wants us on 2 weeks of optifast after surgery as well but I don't think I am going to be able to take it. I'll have to speak to him about just doing normal clear liquids for that 2 weeks because I honestly can't stomach this Optifast. I am not a complainer and I am dedicated to making this work and doing it right but I am feeling physically ill just thinking about the Optifast. May be it's all in my head? Just knowing it's a diet powder might be causing this? I have tried slimfast in the past and could not drink that either. There is something about the taste, smell and texture that just turns my stomach. Sorry to go on like this but these past 6 days have been really difficult.
