I took a nightgown and all I did was give it a ride back and forth to the hospital. I was an open, I don't know if that makes a difference. The hospital gowns are good for everyone looking at your surgical site and no need to try and thread the IV and epidural into your own gown. I also had such a problem with excessive sweating from the plastic mattress. Glad I sweat in their gowns and I didn't have to come home and do my own laundry. I did use my chap stick, wet ones, hand lotion, toothpaste and toothbrush, deodorant and face cream. Hope this helps...... Good luck and God Bless Debbie

I packed waaaay too much!! I stayed in the hospital gown the entire time. The nurses are constantly having to pull it up to drain the drain or check this or give blood thinner shots. My slippers did come in handy although they provided non-slip socks and I brought my robe and never wore it because they provided me a nice light weight one. Now I have been bummung around my house in a nightgown because its nice not to have a waist bacd around my stomach - lets my skin breathe lol! Best of luck! Hugs, Beth RNY 1/4/06 - Down 14 pounds!

Hey, Kay. My surgery is tomorrow and I'm taking 2-piece pajamas and my bathrobe and slippers. I will be walking around 4 hours after surgery!! and dont want the back opening from those lovely hospital drafties. Also I get cold quickly so pj's are better for me. I'm wearing spandex in and very loose sweatpants out. And dont forget the panties... Getting up and down you dont want everyone in your business.. Surgery will be from the navel-up. Take care, praying all is well. Free

I have had an "open" procedure before (non-related to WLS) and I found that the first day of surgery....you could care less if you have a gown on or not. All I cared about was the pain meds I do plan on taking my own night gown for the second day. After freshening up I will feel more compfy and at ease in my own gown. I don't plan on taking a robe however. They just give you a gown to put on backwards. It covers everything and you don't have to worry about packing something else. I wouldn't recommend taking pj's. Especially with an open procedure. The waist band will press on your incision. Best Wishes to everyone with their upcoming surgery! Claudette

Kay Babe, Don't bother to bring your own clothes except for socks and something to go home in. Wear Hospital gowns and let them do the laundry. Robin

I am a revision and will have to be in the hospital 4 to 6 days if we can go Lap or 5 to 7 days if we have to do open. I feel so much more comfortable in my long gowns and I have a couple of dusters and slippers that match my gowns, so those are what I am taking. If I was only going to be in for a couple of days, I wouldn't have time to wear them, because it is a day or two before they remove the IV. As long as it is in, it is not possible to wear your own, unless it has snap open sleeves. But after the IV is removed, I feel so much better to sponge bath and put on a fresh gown that is my own!! If you still have the IV in when you go to walk, you will either have to have your robe off the IV arm, run the tubing up the sleeve and out the neck or wear a hospital gown backwards for a robe. Just my 2¢ worth. Patty **6 days to go!!**
