I was just wondering what the average time is to be sore post op? I'm only three days out and I'm wondering how long I'll be sore for. Thanks, Amy

Amy I'm sure everyone is different and will heal in their own good time. But one thing I can assure you of is that each day will be better than the last one So take it easy and don't overdo. You are only 3 days out I'd be surprised if you weren't a bit sore. Regards and many hugs, Ronna

Hi Amy, Welcome home and congrats on being a loser! The soreness comes and goes for awhile, remember there's tissues, organs and muscle healing. It changes from trauma pain to healing pain and randomly jumps from location to location, the left side and the mid ab area being the longest lingerer (for me, anyway). I still take a pain med on occassion at night and tylenol at other times and I am 12 days out. Some days i feel nothing, some are more sore than others. Driving was a whole new world, I had no idea how many ab muscles are involved and come home sore from that. walking helps strengthen everything. Everyone is different based on their pre-op fitness and size; probably some variable in how the surgery is performed. Remember that you're healing.... Hope this helps. Tiffany

Hi- I'm 5 days post-op and I have to admit today is better than yesterday. If by soreness you mean tenderness around the incision area..I would have to say that today if I press on the marks, I can feel them. Otherwise sometimes if I've been sitting for a while standing can stretch them but only for a moment, and then I'm fine. So, give it another day or two. Each day will be easier than the next....promise! and GOOD LUCK!!!!

I had open RNY and my first two days hurt like crazy. Everyday gets better. I'm still sore now but not as bad as it was. Hang in there! Kay

I hurt like #$%* for the first few days. I think most of it was caused by vomiting and a lack of a BM. At a week out I'm a little tender but doing great. My big jump in healing occurred around day 5. Hope this helps. Sharon PS. A body pillow helped with sleeping and getting in and out of bed. I would recommend one for everyone getting this surgery!

HI Amy! I had my surgery the day before you did and I am still sore. As they told me at the hospital, the more you walk and keep moving the faster you will heal. I noticed that everyday is a little better. But also remember to rest because your body is still healing. Hope this helps. Welcome to the losing side!!!! -Sue 5days post op
