Home at last!! A great day!
I finally got back home last week. I had surgery last thursday and was out of the hospital on Friday evening, but I had flown to San Francisco for the surgery and yesterday finally flew home to Hawaii. I am so happy to be back. Of course the flight was brutal. I sneezed for the first time since my surgery on the flight, I thought I was going to die. And then the seat belt and someone ran into me with their back...ouch! Strangely enough now that I am back home, today was my best day so far. I felt fabulous today. I am hungry, which feels good to really be hungry, and made a great dinner. I finally shaved my legs!! My mom has been putting on my socks and shoes for me the last week because I couldn't bend over. I finally almost slept on my side last night and think I might be able to tonight. And I went 4 hours past my schedule pain med time cause I didn't really need it. It was a fabulous thing. I think tomorrow I might actually try and paint my toe nails. I know I am going to have some bad days so I am really excited about my first really good one. Just had to share.
Jessica, I'm glad to hear that you've had a good day and that everything went well for you. I'm also glad that you survived your flight home. lol I hope that you continue to get better every single day. I'm glad you shared with us. I'm having my surgery Friday, and I'm always happy to hear about a new post-op that is getting better by the day. Way to go! Peace, Tammy
Hey Jessica my surgery date sis! Glad to hear you are home and doing well. I cant imagined the pain with sneezing... ouch! I was thinking about you and how you did on your surgery. Thanks for the post! sorry to hear that you are still on liquids (another post). Did you have the Lap RNY? I had the open RNY and I left the hospital on pureed foods. I still cant believe how good mashed potatoes taste!!! I had them for the first time last night, you'd think I was insane at how I was enjoying them. But it felt like I was eating something real. Not liquid. I wonder why Lap surgeries have to be on liquid after the surgery and the open one you can graduate up to pureed foods before leaving the hospital? I am sure there is a good reason just dont know it. Keep us posted and keep up the great work!!!!

It's funny that you mention mashed potatoes. Someone posted a couple of days ago abou****ered down instant mashed potatoes and I have been thinking about them ever since. I am dying to make some mashed potatoes!! I've already got it planned out to make them with chicken broth so I can get some protein in there.
I don't know if the difference is a surgery thing or a surgeon thing. I think it might be more a surgeon thing, but then again, my procedure is apparently a newer one that not many surgeons do. I had a vertical gastrectomy...my stomach pouch is about 3 ounces and no by pass of small intestines. My stomach is about in the shape of Italy now.
Welcome, home, Jessica!! Glad to hear everything went well despite a few bumps in the travel. I know what you mean about being able to put on your own socks and shoes - everyone one I know has done this for me over the past two weeks, when I could do it for myself a few days ago it was sooo liberating!! My legs, however, do resemble the Sherwood Forest.
Look forward to hearing more of your progress!!
