Had surgery two week ago and having a hard time getting my proteins in. The powders give me a heartburn feeling so I've been mainly getting protein from Atkins shakes. Still on full liquid stage until next week when I switch to pureed which will allow me to get more protein in, but I noticed my hair thinning in patches throughout my head!!! I CANNOT have this. Any advice. I have follow up next week and will be asking doc for RX for biotin. Any other words?? Let me now QUICK!! Free.

Hi Free, Try the isopure drinks, they are considered clear liquids. Flax Seed oil is supposed to help, too. Try it in your shake, it has a nutty flavor. Good luck, this is also one of my greatest worries. ~Tiffany

I just read on someones profile yesterday about Flax Seeds. Have you been eating them or are you using the oil. I seen a bag in the Walmart today. I was going to get it but thought I'd ask Doc before I did. How often do you eat them or add to your shakes?? Thanks kay

Some people have a reaction to anestisia, one of which is hair loss. This could be what you are experiencing. It is a form of shock. Biotin is an over the counter thing, not a RX. GNC has a capsil form that you can open up and put the contents into what every you can eat or drink. The chances of having hair loss around 3 or 4 months is almost 100%. The amount might be controlled by the nutrition we have now. But we all will most likely have some loss, it is temp. and will only last about 1 month. But this early on, I think it is directly related to the shock of the surgery, not nutrition, that comes later.

I read about anesthesia affecting hair loss so as I was in pre-op chatting with the anesthestian doctor, I asked. He said its one of the biggest wives tales out there regarding surgery. Flax oil comes in many forms, buy it at a vitamin shop and be sure to store it in the fridge. I use an oil and put a squirt in my shakes. ~Tiffany

Didn't know that it was listed as a wives tale, got the info from a friend who is an anesthesialogist. 2 1/2 weeks is real early for nutrition loss. I would look to something else causing it.

It just goes to show that doctors opinions and information can be extremely far apart.

Freda, Have you tried Nectar or the premade Isopure? Did your dr. prescribe any prilosec (heartburn/acid reflux) or something like that for you to take twice a day? My nurse also gave me Simethicone for gas (4 times a day). Reallly you have to get that protein in. I have also bought Nioxin Hair products at the local beauty supply to help. I hope maybe these things help. ::hugs:: Cyndi
