Hi everyone, first I really want to thank you all for replying to my post the other day, it helped a lot to read all of your responses. I am feeling better and better each day, and now I am really struggling with the "no food" diet i am on. I have been instructed to stay on clear liquids for 2 weeks, I hate broth and jello, so for my whole first week all I have had is crystal ligh****er and sugar free popsicles. I am REALLY battling to not try some real food. I have noticed that alot of you seem to be eating before two weeks and I was just curious why it is ok for some and not others? And those of you that did make it through the 2 weeks, HOW DID YOU DO IT???? Please help! Thanks again, you all have been great. Karyn

Karyn, I am two weeks out today. I am also suprised by the wide variety of post op diets. I was on clear liquids for three days, full liquid for four and then on soft foods. At four weeks out I will be eating the same foods I eat forever. My doc says no protien drinks or supplements. I am following my doctors orders as I believe in him and the education program I attended. Teresa

Karyn I'm sorry about the "no food" diet your surgeon has you on. I know it's hard but just imagine all the lbs melting off of you. My surgeon let me go straight to pureed foods. Some go straight to soft foods and I'm jealous of that because I'm tired of grinding everything up. I just remember that all surgeons are different and have different rules for some reason. I'm sure whatever your surgeons rules are, they are for the best! Hang in there!! Kay

Karyn, You are not alone!!! I am also on 2 weeks of liquids and yes chicken broth and water is geting boring!!! I had a mini-melt down last nite and thought I was going to have to be admitted. The smell of food is driving me crazy and I just wnat 1 lil bite. But on the other hand...I have lost 14 pds in 7 days Trust me it is so hard and i keep thinking that I have less than a week than I can eat applesauce/baby food...yummmmm I cant eat real food till 4 weeks and it is semi-solid...I dont think I eat real food till 6-8 weeks out. Keep your head up and just think when we can eat it will be like heaven. Small heaven....and we are melting away. Take care and if you ever need a shoulder just email me Tina 269/255/140ish

I am three weeks out today adn I was on a liquid diet for 1 week and was then put on yogurts soups etc. There wasn't a clear definition for the next step but I'm still doing some soft foods and I have incorporated sliced meats and cheeses into my diet. I have been trying pretty much anything that I think is in reason and haven't had to much pouch problems. Except for eggs Good luck to you! Dana

I also have what I would consider a more strict diet (2 weeks clear liquids/2 weeks full liquids/2 weeks pureed foods before FINALLY being able to have real food...I can't WAIT). Hating broth and jello really would suck. What got me through the most hellish cravings was to have something warm, so instead of just buying chicken broth I would strain really good soups and eat that broth. Or, we tried making some crockpot meals for the family and then I would sip on the juice from that for some real flavor. Egg drop soup is good, if you like that. I also strained some great hot and sour soup from a place near me that we love. You will get through it. I am actually struggling to eat now-a-days, which is strange. The first two weeks I thought I was drinking too much, but nowthat I'm on full liquids, I feel like I'm not getting enough it because I get full so much faster!! Good luck and hang in there!!

Hi Karyn, I was on clear liquids for a week & have been pureed foods for now 3 weeks, I have 1 week to go & then soft foods. Yippee!! The smells are the worst I want to take a bite, but I know I can't. The thought that the pounds melting away keeps me going. It was really hard at first, almost had a breakdown. Hang in there it'll get better. Carly

Karyn, It's not easy, is it? I'm a 123'er and have been on clear liquids and will continue until I see my surgeon on Friday. Hopefully he will advance me to the full liquid stage because let me tell ya, this is getting old. Like you, I don't do broth. All the SF jellos taste too sweet to me, as well as the SF popsicles. I have been surviving on very diluted 100% white grape juice, no sugar added type blended with lots of crushed ice. Oh and ice chips. I guess the energy will have to come from my body fat. My DH made me some jello out of unflavored jelatin and the juice and I can eat that, but only a little. I DO know how you feel. My tummy rumbles so much sometimes and I feel hungry. I think this will be so much easier when we can actually eat something. Chew something other than ice cubes! Chele
