Question: First Day on Pureed
Hi Everyone:
Iam goint to post this queston to a few other message boards to see what kind of responses I get, because Iam really worried about this pureed phase Iam going into today.
I had my surgery on the 24th of january so my staples are still in and they come out on Monday. Anyway, I want to say that Iam really nervous about going into this stage of the game. Iam not worried about how the new food will effect me but rather Iam worried that when I start on any new foods that I will fall back into my old eating patterns and worried that the food will not be enough. Although I have gotten to know my tool and how it responds to the liquids I have been on so far, I worry that my new food additions will trigger new cravings and wanting to eat more. So far I have adjusted very well to everything. I did get sick one time from drinking my protein drink to fast.
I don't know if my question makes any sense at all, but Iam really really nervous. I have been on popsicles, water, SF pudding, SF jello, broth, and some pureed chunky vege soup with 1 tbsp on cheddar cheese in it for added protein. Oh yes, and my protein drinks, and my SF Carnation instant breakfast, and my high protein milk. I know I can't stay on these food for the the rest of my life but I am sick of them and know that I must move on.
Has anyone ever had these issues? Or am I just crazy.
What do all of you advise to start out with.
Thanks again
Denise Heisler
Hi Denise
No your not crazy? Well if you are, I am too.
In the hospital I was scared to do pureed as well. I made the nurse call the kitchen and tell them I wanted a liquid diet. I was scared that the pureed foods would make me hungry for more.
When I got home I got really scared so I posted the same question on the boards and everyone assured me that my feelings were normal.
Just take it slow and eat slow. The only way to find out if something agrees with you is try it.
I'm a picky eater so my list of pureed foods that I eat is boring.
I eat yoguart, pureed tuna, Protein pudding and use to be refried beans but they make me sick now
Several people post what they eat every night on the board. Read the post, you might get some good ideas.
Good Luck
Kay
I just move to all foods, except steak, pork shops, roast beaf. I have the same worry, just that I will eat too much and blow the surgery. But I have found the my tool keeps this from happening. I am not hungry most of the time. I have to force myself to eat. But I have to make sure I have an empty pouch. There are times I am hungry, this is when my pouch is empty. I just eat slow, have too or I get sick and over eat.
This is where you have to listen to the tool. Also, food isn't the same anymore. Stuff that I loved before just doesn't taste as great. It is food and something I need to live by. Basically, my relationship with food has changed, it is now what I need to live, not what I need to be happy.
Hope this gives you some hope. Just remember, slow and listen.
Denise, what a great question. I was worried about all the protein we need to eat. I had done Atkins in the past and I just couldn't stomach all of the grease, etc, I ended up eating. But, I am happy to report that I haven't had a problem with that at all. I think it is because I'm eating so little that that sort of greasy feeling doesn't build up in my mouth. I always craved carbs when I was on Atkins and I have absolutely no desire to eat them now. My family made popcorn for "movie night" last night and I didn't want any of it (and I'm a die hard popcorn fan!).
I think it's completely normal to be worried. Just go slow and you'll realize that this tool gives you the control you need to stay away from the wrong foods.
Lisa
