alcohol
Poll question: Has anyone yet tried alcohol? Thru other posts I read that is the worst thing in the fast loss time frame and a waste of calories.
Last week I was at a business dinner and being toasted as I was just named president of the assn (good time to lose 100+ lbs!). Very expensive wine came out and I decided to have a bit. It was just a few sips, it was soooo goooood and I enjoyed every little drop.
An hour later I was leaning into a friend who had his arm around me and fell asleep at the table. Just for a second but it was noticed and I awoke when I heard 'Tiffany's asleep!' I was not drunk but I had a very slight buzz. And the few bites of chicken I had (15 minutes after finishing) sat like a rock for a few hours, I woke up at 2am and coughed; little chunks of chicken went flying everywhere.
Any other attempts with a drink?

Not yet, but darn sure looking forward to it again! I figured I'd give myself about 6 months as well. Surgeon's information read like never again, but I hear of others able to tolerate and enjoy it... and it isn't like I drink frequently anyway. Maybe just wait a little longer.

On another board they had an article that said those with RNY had double the affect of drink. One drink was equal to at least 2 drinks to someone else thier size. We absorb it faster and more thoroughly. So if you do take a sip, be prepared to be considered legaly over the driving limit. Just a warning.
I haven't tried yet. Been told not too, not that I drink often anyway. I have heard some say never to drink after the surgery too.
I guess I won't try anything after hearing that. My dr. said the reason not to do it, because it hurts your liver. Since your liver is working so hard already with the weight loss it's too much. I would sure love a drink, but I had a fun weekend before my surgery since I knew it was going to happen.

I had about five sips of a cider at a friends birthday. Tasted great, I was buzzed after two sips. My doc did warn that we would become lightweights because of the new absorbtion. Works for me - less to spend on drinks!
No problems though, well except that I wasted the other 3/4 of the bottle!!

Funny you should ask. This past Friday we had a dinner party. I added a shot of vodka to my ISOPURE w/ Crystal Light, poured it over ice, and thought I was slick. It tasted fine. IT went down OK. But about half an hour later I was sick! So sick I had to leave the table and go lie down. Two hours later I lifted my head up off the pillow and swore.."I'll not do that again!"
