What was on YOUR menu for Tuesday?
Hi everyone,
I see a lot of excitement about fat free products. My nutritionist does not recommend them because they add sugar to replace the fat. Its often higher in carbs than if you ate the real thing. Plus, our bodies need some fat, the good kinds, like what's in tiny amts of butter, olive oil, avocados. If the body does not have fat it can hinder your heart, brain and constipate you
- seriously - fat lubricates the bowel. I've also been told to 'live' and not focus on this as a diet, rather, retrain myself to eat properly, build the skills for long term success.
Just thought I'd share that point; look at low fat stuff instead so you get the best of both world. And speak with your own doctors/nuts to get the directive that's right for your cir****tances.
Today's menu:
B: 1/4 c pinto beans with 1/4 c mac and cheese
S: 1/2 bottle Isopure
L: 2 chicken nuggets
and a few bites of kidney beans and macaroni from some soup
S: cheese stick
D: the rest of the soup contents minus the broth, slice of LF yogurt cheese and a bite of banana
Have been thru 45 oz of water so far and have some tea brewing.
Have a good one!

Erica,
You had your surgery jan 23? right, you can eat a whole cup of soup at at time and when you do are you eating the vegetables and noodles in the soups or are you pureeing them? Wow 1 whole cup in one sitting? I had my surgery same day. My Drs want me on pureed soups and foods for 3 weeks total. I wish I could eat the soups with noodles and such, I am scared to eat them just yet. I have had no complications yet. I did dump last Thur, when I had a 1/2 cup of potato soup. I ate to much, so now I only eat 1/4 at at time. Now I can do it every hr, but not 1 cup in a sitting. wow, do you feel full? have you dumped?

Hi Melissa,
Yeah, i had lap rny on the 23rd. And yes i do eat 1 cup of soup at a time. I have been eating the Cambells and they really don't have a lot of vegies or noodles, most of it is broth. I don't puree anything, i just chew REALLY well. A couple days after surgery i had to eat 8oz of fluids (1oz about every 10 minutes); I'm now 2 weeks out and it takes me about 45 minutes to have my soup. During this initial soft food stage (for the next 2 weeks, already done with 1wk) I'm supposed to be eating about 1/2 cups worth of food per meal. Even though i'm eating 1 cup of soup, the vegies/noodles/bits of chicken might equal 1/4cup and the remaining is broth. If I eat soup its only clear soups; no dairy/cream soups at all. My doc doesn't want me eating any milk or fruit because of the sugar and possibility of dumping. I would love to have potato soup. I am so sick of the same Chicken Noodle, Tomato, Vegetable, and Split Pea. And actually my refrigerator broke and wont' get fixed till next tuesday, so think i'm going to be eating soup till then. For me, I've thrown up, but i believe it's because i eat too fast and not too much. I'm trying my hardest to eat slow because i hate throwing up; i'm so scared by throwing up it's going to hurt my pouch this early in the recovery/healing process. My doc says no matter how long it takes, I need to take in the 1/2 cup of food in order to get proper nutrients from food. I don't ever feel full; I just feel content and not hungry. I think because i take so long to eat, the food is constantly being digested or at least keeps moving through my pouch. One month after surgery i believe i am supposed to work up to 1 cup of food per meal; now that sounds like a lot to me.
take care,
erica
