Hi everyone, Today I met with my psychotherapist and we talked about low energy. I adore him as he deals with physical issues as well as mental health issues; he is also a WLS specialist. Today we talked about low energy. In addition to reminding me that I've had major surgery we spoke about how the body is at work and that is making us tired. In a nutshell, he explained that inside our bodies are working very hard to heal and adapt to the changes. While we may be lounging around and feel like we're not doing anything, the metabolism working hard in its new environment. Its balancing out the food intake - watching for food thru the stomach and reaching to fat reserves for more energy. All that internal activity is zapping our energy. (of course factors like no vitamins, low water or protein also is a factor). He said that 15-35 lbs is the normal range for the first month's weight loss and that months 2.5 thru 5 are when the most dramatic results occur. Plateaus occur in months 4-6 and are the longest for those not exercising. So I am sharing these thoughts to help ease any frazzled minds and help assure you that great things are ahead. Happy Valentines Day. Tiffany

Thanks Tiffany, I have been so tired since surgery. I know that fighting off that infection I had took it's tool but I still want to sleep all the time. This info helped a lot. Makes sense. Regards and hugs, Ronna

Thanks Tiffany, I feel like taking a nap nearly every day. Everything that I do makes me feel tired. Reading your post made me think.... Oour bodies are healing, that takes lots of energy. Thanks for sharing! Cathy

Thanks so much Tiffany. I needed that reminder. I just came back to work yesterday and I am sooo tierd. When I got home yesterday I took a 2 hr nap. You know, when you begin to feel good you forget how much our bodies went through and how much it is trying to adjust. Thanks again for the reminder. ~Dawn {{{Hugs}}}

That is cool you see someone specializing in WLS AND Psychotherapy... it must be a wealth of information. I thought seriously about seeing someone because dealing with the WLS emotions is very trying, but I am moving across country (from CA to DC) in less then 2 months, so maybe I will research some when I get settled there. How did you find him?

LOL... thank you for the suggestion, but I happen to hate Dr. Phil. I just don't think his style meshes well with my personality. Any others you may know of? Maybe I will venture out to the book store tonight and look at those types of books.

Dr Tovian was recommended by my surgeon for the psych evaluation. I took the path of least resistance and went with him and became a fan when the evaluation he wrote was so highly accurate it was spooky. If you want his info I am happy to send it and maybe he can refer you to someone in your local area. it is great that he deals with both the emotional side and specializes in WLS, it really helps and ties both sides together; another therapist I went to was tall, thin and was amazed at my pre op thoughts - she was nice but not the right match.
