Doing well

Hi all, I have been going up and down emotionally through all this healing but overall I am doing very well and just wanted to share. I have been going for long walks the past 4 days and have been having a blast. I just turn on my portable CD player and make a go for it. (The first walk I lost my house key; the second walk I found it again what luck!) And yesterday I took my walk and ran some errands along the way. I strapped on my messenger bag, grabbed a bottle of H2O and mailed some bills, returned some DVD's, bought some OTC medicine (I am having some serious insomnia problems -- Doc said I could take Tylenol PM) and perused for magazines. All in all I was out for 1 1/2 hours (much more than the usual 45 min walks I had taken previously). Now mind you, these walks exhaust me and I find that I am draggin my heels to get home, so don't feel bad if you can't manage this long at once. I wasn't very inactive before surgery and have a tendency to really push myself to the limit (case in point: 6 days after surgery I walked 1-1 1/2 mi. and actually set my recovery back a few days from overexertion). I'm starting on pureed foods and am doing well. It is much easier to get in a decent amt of protein when I can add cottage cheese and chicken and eggs into the mix. Plus, I ordered some Resource liquid protein on Sunday over the and find that it helps. The hospital served this liquid to me while there as a post-op and figured it is good enough to have at home. Although strangely it has sugar and corn syrup in it, yet doesn't bother me at all. It is good because it comes in 8 oz. juice boxes so is easy to take along. As for the weight loss portion of this journey, I am not finding myself discouraged even though the scale seems to vary up and down. I know there is no way that my body won't drop weight, even if I can't see it all the time. At my 2 week weigh in they said I was above average in weight loss with a total of 20lbs lost, so I take that as a good sign. Do I still step on the scale daily, yes, but when it doesn't move -- or if it goes up -- I figure, well, I am building muscle on my walks, so my body is adjusting to each day as it comes. Eating as few calories as we are, our bodies can do nothing but resort to our stored fat for energy. So, all in all, I am doing well and that is all in part to the messages and information I have been able to have at my fingertips from all of my fellow January post-ops. I hope my post can maybe help someone out of a down day as others have been able to help me. Good luck to us all. Emily 347/320/160
