Funeral - Need Advice

My grandfather died today and I will be going to Connecticut for three days for the funeral. This isn't exactly the time I want to be worried about what, when, where and how I eat but it keeps coming to mind. I figure I will keep my water bottle with me and some crackers in my purse but no idea how to get through three days out of town. Has anyone else traveled since surgery (hopefully for happier occassions) and can give me some advice? Thanks! Beth

First off, I am so sorry for your loss. Someone in my support group gave me a suggestion, as my work is all travel. She always kept thoughs cheese and cracker snack things handy. Hi protein and easy to eat no matter where you are. Also, grab so premixed protein drinks. I personally like the Slim Fast Carb ones, and use them as your meals, not as snacks. Oh and keep a bag of nuts with you, peanuts, sunflower seads, what ever you prefer. With those few things, you should be able to make it thru the days without having to think much about it, except to make sure you eat, take your vit. and drink your water. Take care

Beth I am so sorry for your loss. Forget the crackers. Go get some string cheese. The come in individually packaged 1oz pieces and are a good snack --- or for me at times 2 make a meal. When in a fix it's something to eat and easy to carry in your purse. Take good care of yourself and make sure you get enough to drink. Regards and many hugs, Ronna

Hi Beth, So sad to hear of your grandfather, my thoughts are with you. I agree with Ronna, take cheese sticks and yogurt. They travel well and are something you can also pick up in any 7-11/White Hen/convenience store. Crackers are white flour and no good. Nuts are good if you can yet tolerate them but remember they are really high in fat. And of course, lots of water bottles. Safe travels, Tiffany

Beth, I'm sorry to hear about your grandfather. I thought of string cheese too...very portable. Yogurt is another great idea (already mentioned also!). Are you able to do protein bars yet? That may be an idea. Chele

Well I traveled for a few days to NY 2 weeks post op so I carried crystal light on the go packets-in case I got tired of water and a zip lock bag full of my favorite protein-permalean. As far as your liquid-these are light to carry and you can get milk/water anywhere. As far as eating you could pack some high protein choices like chicken or tuna in a can that you can have with your crackers and are non-perishable. And don't forget the vitamins/supplements. Other than that I would play it by ear. Sorry for your loss.

Hi Beth, I am so sorry about your grandfather. I haven't traveled much since surgery, just up state, and to see some friends an hour away. I just took a little cooler with me w/ some yogurt, and some tuna. I also took some protein powder. Hope you have a safe trip. Let us know how you make out when you get back. Hugs, Rosa

First of all, I am sorry for your loss (((hugs))) Now, about the food issue, you have already gotten some good advice so far, but I thought I would add on... I went on a weekend trip early PostOp and I packed a cooler with some ice. I included the following items: Carb Control Yogurt FF Cottage Cheese Mozzarella String Cheese Some precooked moist meatballs Turkey Jerky Then when I went out to eat I ordered soup most of the time. Broccoli Cheader was my favorite. I dont know how much solid food you can tolerate but now when I eat out I always order something with boneless, skinless, non battered chicken breast. Take Care and hope your trip is not too hard food wise.

Beth I am so sorry to hear about your loss. Remember all your friends at Obesity.com are behind you in support and love I would try to find your largest purse and keep bottled water, maybe some protein powder pre measured in a zip locked bag so you can add it to the water or nonfat milk at a restaurant, string cheese, yogurt, I would even bring some instant sugarfree pudding and a shaker cup you can always make sugarfree pudding with protein powder or a shake on the run. I don't know about the nuts my doctor said you should be very careful with the skins they can block and cause pain...... Hang in there Suzan Gabin Don't forget to get some and take care of yourself... Looking forward to hearing from you when you get back...........
