i havent been told not to eat after a certain time and I am 5 weeks out--sometimes I end up eating up until bedtime to get in all my protein--is this bad and can it contribute to slow or no weight loss?

I wish I had an answer for you as well. I had surgery on 23 Jan and haven't really had problems with protein. Can I ask what you're eating as far as protein? One of my surgeon's rules (and it's a strict one) is three meals per day and absolutely no snacking. So, I don't have a cut off time in eating, just dinner is the last meal. Are you tolerating the proteins well? Kim

Scientifically speaking, and this is a proven fact, it does not matter what time you eat throughout the day as long as you don't eat more calories than your body needs. The problem with nighttime eating is that usually, for a "normal" person, they have already consumed their daily calorie intake by evening time and when they have a nighttime snack it exceeds what their body needs therefore adding on weight. For us, it seems highly unlikely that we are going to be able to overindulge to the point that we will ever be taking in more than 1500 calories a day, as long as we choose the right foods. So I would not worry about it. Especially if you need to get in all your protein. But to double check, ask your doctor. He/she may want you to stay away from nighttime eating because from a psychological standpoint it can lead to more empty calories and eating without thinking (like eating while in front of the TV even when not hungry). Good luck. Emily

Lori, that's a very good question. I too have end up eating until bedtime to either get in all my protein or I usually take my pills at night with some pudding or applesauce. I was wondering the same thing...thanks for asking! April

My nut said it's more improtant to get the protien in than to worry about it being too close to bedtime. Leeanne
