I asked at the health food store and was told no your body releases what it doesnt use when you go to the bathroom..My doctor wants me to take 500mcg's a day on top of what my multivitamin has, well my liquid I noticed is 1000 mcg's and I was taking 1 dose everyday prior to surgery -- I want to know if its going to hurt if I continue with the 1000mcg's per day or should I just take it every other day???

I dont know the RDA for WLS but can tell you that the body does release what it does not need. Your urine will be more yellow and should not be confused with the yellowish color when you are dehydrated. There was a post earlier last week from someone who had too much b12 in her diet and it did cause some restless leg challenges. Your doctor would know best after seeing your blood work. HTH.

Hello Lori. I am the one who was told by my PCP to flush out the B-12 from my body because it caused Restless Leg Syndrome (or at least that is the theory we're working with right now). Other than that though everything I have heard about B-12 is that your body will flush out the excess; although it seems strange that if it is sublingual, meaning it goes straight into your blood stream, it can be pee'd out. But what do I know. Anyway, my surgeon had suggested (at my two week post-op) that I take the full 1000mcg every other day or even every day while I recouperated, seeing as how run down and tired I was feeling. She said it wouldn't hurt me at all. So for the most part it is probably harmless. I seem to have a tendency towards RLS so when all this B-12 was in my system (which my PCP says acts as a nerve stimulant) it was really over-revving my system. When I told her (PCP) that I was taking the 1000mcg every other day she did say that it was a lot (and she really emphasized A LOT) of B-12. And, happily, since she had me stop taking it so often my RLS has begun to weaken, although not disappear. But I feel it will and then I'll just go back to B-12 once a week on Sundays. I think, based on the advice of my surgeon, which is that 1000mcg per day won't hurt, and the fact that you so far have been fine, that you can continue. If you need reassurance, call your Dr., they will know WAY more than the guy selling it at the health food store. But, and this goes for anything, If something drastic happens in your life or symptoms, seek help and be candid about everything you are taking so that they can get a clear picture. (Just so you see how the B-12 affected me so rapidly I'll tell you, my symptoms of RLS came on the very same day that I first started taking the B-12 more than once a week and got worse and worse as I kept taking it every other day. I just couldn't put it together without the help of my PCP.) Good luck, Emily
