Question about Biotin?
Hey guys
My biggest worry with this surgery is the hair loss. Being over weight, I had no self esteem but I took good care of my hair. I felt like If I cant look good neck down, at least I have to keep my hair looking good.
Anywho.. I read on the main board that Biotin helps with hair loss. I asked my surgeon and he said its ok. I found a small bottle at walmart thats very inexpensive.
Does anyone else take Biotin or planning to take it? How much do you take? It says take 1 tablet a day which is 1000 mcg but I think WLS patients take more than that a day. Do you know how much people normally take?
Thanks
Kay

I read about Biotin on posts pre surgery and started taking it a month before I went in.
My experiences were that my fingernails now grow and are strong, my skin does not break out during that time of the month AND the greatest part is that I have tons of new baby hairs growing. So it may not help wiht the hair falling out, but it definatley helps with the new hair growing in.
My sister has super thin hair and I told her about it and she has the same experience, tons of new growth. So I figure that even if the old falls out, the new is coming in right with it.
I have been taking it for only 3 months. I found it for 2.89 for 100 tabs at WINCO.
Good luck.....................

I have not yet started taking it but it is in my multi. Hair loss is my greatest fear, its always been my crowning glory.
As pointed out in a post yesterday, olives have lots of biotin so as you can eat those, one or two a week may not be a bad idea. My guess is that its better to take two small does rather than one large dose; with our malabsorption challenges we may just lose most of what's in the larger dose.
Thanks for the info on what's out there, I'll check it out. ~Tiff
