Update on Pain/Swelling

I saw my doctor this afternoon. He is referring to this problem as a "Seroma"...a pocket of fluid around the incision which prevents the tissue from healing, apparently. He tried to drain it with a syringe but wasn't able to "find" the fluid, though he is positive that's what it is. As a result, I got more pain meds and will be having an ultrasound and aspiration at the hospital soon. Hmmph. If that doesn't work, I may end up with a drain for awhile again. The good news: It WILL eventually go away! Once the fluid gets down to a reasonably small amount, the body just absorbs it and the tissue heals. More good news: I have lost 5 inches off of my waist and 29lbs total (one month). My doctor said he is very pleased! I really wanted to thank those of you *****sponded to my post and wished me luck and well wishes! That means a lot to me! I'm happy to be a part of this board! Chele

Oh good, I am sooo glad that there is at least a positive spin on what seems to be a bit of a temporary setback. As of last Fri I had lost 25 pounds, so I could have lost a few more. You and I both had surgery within 1 day of one another, so it seems as if we are similar. That can only mean good things. Talk to you soon. Emily

Thanks, Emily! Yes, I shouldn't complain about this...it's not really a huge deal in the grand scheme of things. Great job on the weight loss! Chele

Thats good news! Well, considering what it *could have* been... And it is nice that he was a good doc and knew what it was right off instead of you having to endure tests. And great job on your weight loss so far

That's a relief. I was worried they would put you back in the hospital like they did with me. Let's hope they can fix you up soon. And congrats on the weight and waist lost Regards and hugs, Ronna

Thanks, Ronna! I'm relieved I wasn't admitted to the hospital...that would have been a bummer. I hope this will just go away without much hassle! Chele
