A few questions- I've seen some people talk about eating jerky around here- isn't that tough to eat??? I would think the pouch (I call my Wheezy) wouldn't like it because it's so tough??? What about nuts? I used to love nuts but am scared to try them, are people tolerating nuts ok????? and what about BBQ sause? I LOVE BBQ sauce but have been scared to try any becuase of the sugar content. I did try Kethcup and did ok, are people tolerating BBQ sauce??? Wheezy is so tempermental, I'm scared to try things. And what about POP (or soda), are people tolerating diet soda OK????? Just curious, I know everyone is different... Thanks

@ Wheezy. My brothers call me that for some reason I tried a tiny peice of jerky today and it felt like I swallowed a ton of bricks. I have had cashews twice and they went down good. I just chewed them very well. I think there is a Carb BBQ sauce that people use. I dont know the exact name of it but I seen it in the stores. Kay

I am going to try to answer as much as I can... keep in mind I had VG, not RNY... Jerky: I only eat turkey jerky, which is softer to start with and I chew it really well. No problems yet. AND it has 15g of protein per ounce! Nuts: Not allowed in my surgeons program BBQ Sauce: I eat it, but again, I can eat sugar, so Soda: Never allowed to have it, ever :cries: I am sure in a few YEARS I may cheat, but until then

Christi~ 1. haven't tried jerky. I didn't like it preop so I'm thinking I won't care for it now either. 2. I haven't eaten nuts out of a jar but I have had protein bars with nuts in them. I was fine. 3. I bought "Carb Options" BBQ sauce. It tastes great. Here's a link so you can see the facts:http://www.carboptions.com/prod_BBQSauce.asp 4. I am terrified to try soda. But again, this is something that I could have lived without preop. I must say though, some commercials make it look really refreshing. Dawn

Havent tried the jerky yet, but my Doc pushes it. Haven't heard of others having problems with it though. Nuts, again Doc pushes these too. I have had some almonds in rice and had no problems. I haven't had more than 5g per serving of sugar, which means I haven't had more than 2.5g of sugar at one time. Check out the low carb stuff and also read the labels of the stuff you really like. I was surprised how little sugar was in things I thought of as sweet. Pop, haven't tried it yet, didn't really drink it before surgery, so probubly wont try it. Nuts and jerky are high in protein. The fats are good fats, I say this because I have almost no fats in my diet and my skin shows the effects. I plan on having sunflower seeds with me when I go back to work. Also Jerky will be with me. Need food that doesn't have to be cooked or refrigerated.

M.M. and I have different surgeons but same office so same program. I am also not allowed nuts, however....I have had a couple and have tolerated them fine. Especially toasted pecans or walnuts. They are softer to chew. I had the vertical gastrectomy as well, like M.M., so there's not much that I can't "tolerate" but qty has been my problem. One bite too much and I am in trouble!! Soda (pop) is definately a no no... I have heard other people say that as well. I know some people have allowed themselves to cheat after several months, but the carbonation I believe is the bad thing. Fills your pouch too quickly, I think.

Hi Christie! I have not tried any jerky yet because I havent found any that isnt made with sugar. I have tried nuts several times, cashews, peanuts, almonds and hazelnuts and had no problem with any of them. Like the other post, i just chewed VERY well. I also buy the Carb options BBQ sauce and ketchup and love both. Soda is not allowed for me until 1 year out and I havent tried any yet. Good luck to you! Karyn
