First restaurant outing

Well, I finally felt like I could tackle the idea of actually eating out with my DH. I had to convince him as he thought everything would still be off limits. But we went to our fav. sushi restaurant and it was so much fun. I ordered some miso soup -- yummy -- and ate it slowly (avoiding the seaweed as I am still technically on pureed foods). My husband ordered a spicy tuna roll and a california roll and I happily tasted both the tuna and the crab. Again -- yummm. I didn't eat any rice or cucumber, but I did try a piece of avocado. I had no ill feelings and even had a bit of wasabi. I then ordered some steamed shumai (shrimp dumplings) and had about 1/2 of one with some soy sauce. Because I was able to pick just at a little of his for taste I didn't feel at all like I missed out on anything. I also had no ill feelings or feelings of overfilling my pouch during or after. It was a good time and the whole thing took at least an hour, so I know I was being slow enough. PLUS, it was the cheapest sushi meal ever for two people! Can't wait till I can actually go for sushi and perhaps even try a full piece of a roll. Emily

I guess it is easier than it seems, which is good b/c my boss is taking me on a Mexican cruise later this month and I don't want to be too worried about food the whole time. I'm sure I'll pack a few things though to have on hand as well to help me out. Have a great time in Germany (Berlin, right?) Will you be able to stay in touch on OH? We'll miss you if you can't! That sounds great! I have had a bite of sushi...just a few grains of rice with it. It was sooo good. I love wasabi. I used to live in O.C....and my favorite sushi restaurant is there! I will agree, going out to eat now is much cheaper. Chele

Congrats Emily! Eating out is a milestone! I've gone out with my family and was able to have soup, a part of a baked potato and a little chicken. The real test will be tomorrow. I have a business meeting over dinner and they all want to go to a Mexican restaurant! I'm thinking beans, maybe something with shredded chicken...THey're going to think I'm nuts if I order from the kids' menu! Amy 247/220.5/135

My hubby and I stopped at a Waffle House Saturday night/Sunday morning (it was midnight). Hubby is a school photographer and we had just finished photographing a school dance. He had asked me if there was anything there I would be able to eat and I told him I could have a scrambled egg so in we went. When they brought my egg it also included a good sized bowl of grits and 2 pieces of toast w/jelly. I ate about 1/2 of the egg and 3 small bites of the grits and I was full. Hubby put away 2 waffles and 2 sausage patties. We were laughing as we got in our car just trying to imagine the waitress's reaction when she goes to clear our table. She's going to look at my plate and think "this lady didn't eat anything! I wonder what was wrong with the food."
