Stuck!

I was eating fish and shrimp for lunch today and it got stuck!!! It was my fault.....I was bumping my gums on the phone and eating and I just didn't chew well enough. I was done eating, but then my stomach starting feeling weird. I thought maybe I was just too full, so I walked around the house....still yapping into the phone. But then, I just had to get off the phone I was in soooo much pain. At that point...I knew what was going on so I made some hot tea maybe to help ease the food on down. I made it but didn't get to drink it because the pain was just so intense, so I decided to hang my head into the toilet for about 45 minutes to . NOTHING CAME OUT!!! I'm terrified of vomiting. I'd rather be locked in a cage with a hungry tiger than vomit..lol...that's how much I hate vomiting. Yet, I still tried to make myself heave ho. Just had the watery mouth and was still in some bad ass pain. You can actually feel your intestine trying to move the food down...it hurts. So finally I made it back to the kitchen, walking like someone had just stabbed me in the stomach, but I grabbed my tea. Went back into the bathroom in case I had any urges to . Well, I took a coupla sips and I thought I was gonna blow right there, but I went through the motions for like a minute with some heavy foamies and then........the pain went away. I mean, I was still hurting, but the excruciating pain I had went away and then it just turned into soreness. I didn't eat or drink anything for about 5 hours after that. I just took a nap to let my emotions and stomach relax a lil bit. The moral of my story.....CHEW CHEW CHEW!!! And don't talk on the phone at the same time. I do that all the time, but I think this time I was talking about something juicy and I was just trying to swallow all fast. I'm better now but will eat maybe a bite (literally) for dinner and call it quits for food for the night. I'm hoping that is the one and only "stuck" experience I ever have. Once you do that....you never go back. April

Hi! I've been there also with different food. I got talking running my lips and bam pain and it seemed like forever before it would move. So yeah needless to say i try and not run my lips when I am eating. It's so so so so hard. Tammy

Oh April, I am so sorry that you went through that!! I too have had that happen and had no idea what it was... so thank you for figuring out the mystery! I had it happen with some veggies so I have stayed away from them but now that I know it was from not chewing enough, I just might give them another chance! I am glad that you got it to go down and that you are feeling better! ~amber~

Whew, I'm so glad I'm not the only one. I was beginning to feel a lil embarassed because I should know better. I mean, I should have known better anyways, but it happened and it was a damn good lesson! Thanks everyone!!! April

April was the fish and shrimp fried..... I had fish and chips about 3 1/2 weeks out. It only took 2 small bites of fish and I had the worst chest pain..The walking and staying relaxed really help.......And finally it went away........Sorry to hear you had to go through this....But it reminds me not to cheat and eat anything greasy-fried and to CHEW CHEW alot..........Hope you feel better now....SUZAN

Thanks Suzan. The fish was broiled tilapia...that I had been eating off of for the 3rd day now. I mean, it may have been the 1 shrimp that I ate too because shrimp can be chewy sometimes and fibrous. I think I definitely had a "stuck" episode. From all the posts I read pre and post op...the descriptions are exactly what I had. And the pain was very distinct. I haven't had anything fried yet although I hear a nugget or two is okay....just nervous to try. Thanks...I do feel better...sore but better. April

I have had it happen to me the other day! It was with chicken and let myself get a little too hungry and ate WAY TOO FAST and did not chew up well. Needless to say, I was praying to the porcelin godess. The pain will knock you off your feet. You would think that I would learn my lesson... but no I did the same thing again ( with chicken no less) 2 days later! Maybe now I will remember to slow down and CHEW CHEW CHEW! cmp

I've had this happen a couple of times, luckily not recently. I had heard papya enzymes help break down food that gets stuck. Papya enzymes are sold wherever vitamins are. I chewed on papya enzymes both times I got food stuck. Once it worked, but the second time was too late, I ended up within minutes.
