Just wondering how long you wait after meals before you drink.

I have found with most things I eat I can drink about 10 mins or so afterwards....am I crazy? do you guys think I am pushing my meals through too quickly? Also I can eat faster than most here are posting. I know I am not eating very much but I can usually finish a meal inside of 10 to 15 mins. again, do you think I am harming myself in any way?? thanks in advance for any input, it is greatly appreciated. I wait 30 minutes after eating to drink and 30 minutes after drinking to eat. At least. I'm scared of enlarging my stoma or something... Chele

Thanks Chele. I had been thinking of that too as a baaaad consequence. I hope I am not damaging anything, I will try to do better about my intake and how fast they are. I do stop when I feel full, and I tolerate most everything now, but I still have a hard time with the meats. I know others here do also so I consider myslf normal with this part. I need to learn how to eat often enough still and am struggling with this, but I just take it day to day. Thanks again!! Steph

The main thing, only real thing, about drinking while or soon after eating is pushing the food thru and alowing us to eat more. I personally drink when I eat, Doc says it is fine, doesn't follow the no drinking thing, I eat less than most on here, so I don't see that it affects me at all. I eat in 10 to 15 min. also. Unless you feel ill from eating too fast or too much, then you are not hurting yourself.

Thanks Kristi, I dont feel like the odd one out now, I dont think I am eating more than I would without drinking, I really think I am eating less, cause I can really only get about 3 oz of solids in at one time, even without drinking afterwards. I do take longer with meats, it is a chore trying to get in my protein if it isnt liquid. I just am not hungry. Thanks again!! Steph

Hi Stephanie! I get to wait an hour after I eat! But sometimes, I wait 30 to 45 minutes and then have a sip of something. If I'm eating a less dense food, I can eat it in 10-15 minutes, but beef and chicken usually takes me longer

Hey stranger, It's nice to see you visit your Jan. family. I drink an hour after I eat. I eat 30 min. after I drink. My surgeon said that we need to do this so we wont push the food through and end up hungry again. I'm scared I'm gonna scretch my pouch thats why I wait. Kay

I have a sip or 2 of water while I'm eating. The sip is primarily just to wet my mouth and nothing more. It's nothing I really even have to "swallow". Susan

Steph - the program I'm in tells us not to drink anything 10 minutes before we eat or for 60 minutes after. The doc says it makes the food go through too quickly and we don't get any nutritional value from it - and we get hungry sooner than we should. It's hard because we're so used to drinking with our meals...We're also supposed to take a full 20 minutes to consume our meals. THAT'S hard! When a meal is 2 ounces it's hard to make it last 20 minutes
