Hellooooooooo I'm sitting here thinking about how unbalanced my meals are. I am not a veggie eater. I don't like peas, green beans, squash, eggplant or anyother thing your mom said, "just taste". I like corn, salad and brocolli. So If I just eat meat, will I be unhealthy? Lately I just have protein for Lunch and Dinner and thats it. Whats gonna happen to me? Will I loose an eye or something? I am such a picky eater. I always have been. I stick with what I like thats it. Eggs, tuna, chicken breast, shrimp and yoguart is what I live off right now. ohhh, and lets not forget my favorite.. protein shakes. NO veggies!!!! So what do you think, do I need to add some green stuff to my diet. Is living off mostly protein bad? Before surgery,I just ate. Now I have to think too much about food. Am I eating right, Am I eating enough, Am I chewing enough. WOW, this is stressful. This post about veggies just turned into a rant. I'm sorry. Your probably thinking that I really need to stop thinking so much at 3:30 in the morning and go to bed huh?? Well I'm going as soon as Elimidate goes off. Good night... Kay

You're funny Kay... I feel the same way. I am so tired of thinking about what to eat. I am ready to just get on with it. I have an EGD scheduled for thursday to see if my sticture is closed then maybe I can start being normal just on smaller plates. I have figured out it is all in my head...if I can let go of how I used to eat, I will be ok. DeborahJ

Hi Kay, I hear yah!! my issue is I love veggies and yesterday really did a number on myself. Up all nite with diarhhea !!! A big no no for only 10 weeks out and my insides just rocked and rolled so to speak. Back to blah and soft for me. I don't think you'll develop some odd physical affectation from not eating veggies My tastes have changed and continue to change and your's may too. Sounds like you are doing absolutley great!!! cj

Kay, I'd stick with the things you enjoy...salad and broccoli (and corn once in awhile). Try choosing deep, dark green lettuce for salads as it contains more nutrients than iceberg lettuce (or mix them together). Broccoli is great for you! A powerhouse veggie! Peas are starchy (as corn is too, which is why I mention having it only once in awhile), and I'm with ya on the squash. It sounds like you'll get plenty of nutrition between the veggies that you DO enjoy, along with your vitamins. I agree with you, this whole thing can be very stressful. Chele

I think you have to have fruits and vegetables for a balanced diet. I don't think you need much, though. I have 2 or 3 strawberried for breakfast, a half apple for lunch, a vegetable or salad (1/2 cup) for dinner. We are eating so little that a few bites of fruits and veggies should be enough. Make a bunch of broccoli and then eat a little every day. Anyway, I like veggies so it is not a problem for me. But I DO think that we need to try to eat a HEALTHY diet. So many of us survived on high fat and high carb foods in the past. Variety is the spice of life. Don't think about it too much...just do it! Diana P.S. I read a really good book about protein several years ago called Protein Power. I remember the guy saying that humans were meant to eat meat and a few nuts, seeds and roots. We were first hunter-gatherers and only later did we learn to cultivate plants and eat them. He contends that humans began to weaken when they began to consume plants and that we are healthier when our diet is primarily animal protein. So then, what IS a healthy diet? If you agree with this book, then protein is all we need! Anyway, that is the problem, isn't it. Lots of people think the best diet is a vegetarian one! So who knows??? Maybe you should check this book out. You can order it on Amazon.com.

Hi Kay, I would just stick with the veggies that you like. I'm not a huge veggie eater myself. I used to love salad but now that is even yucky sometimes to me. How about some fruit? I love fresh strawberries, blueberries, raspberries & oranges. Carly

The only fruit I have tried since surgery is grapes and bananas. Maybe I should try more fruit. I'm so scared that something will make me sick. I have yet to throw up since surgery. kay

Take your vitamins and eat what you like. Eat broccoli and eat salad. I substituded fresh spinach for lettuce to get more nutricion and I love it. I haven't had much in the way of veges either. I have had mushrooms and asparagus as they are my favorites. Other than that just what I can throw into a salad. You're doing find. Stop beating yourself up sweetie!
