Please Remind me WHY
Hi all!
I am need of a bit of support here... I was so good in the beginning about not drinking while eating and waiting the appropriate amount before taking a sip. But now I am more lacsidaisical about it and because I do okay without overfilling, etc. I can't remember why I am not supposed to do it. I need to be reminded so I will STOP it! Help me!

I just came from the surgeon's office and this was on my list of questions. WHY? Because it washes food out of our pouch faster, reducing the digestion process. Because it dilutes the bit of stomach juices you have. Because it may stretch the pouch depending on the technique used in surgery.
Sometimes I do take a sip of water to get in a vitamin or just refresh my mouth. He said this is OK. Sometimes I will wait 90 minutes before drinking as I still feel full and drinking makes me uncomfortable.
Hope that helps!
Emily,
The best reason I know of comes from my own personal experience...
I made the "mistake" of drinking something right after I had eaten (a couple times) and the liquid came right up.
What I was told originally is that our pouch is so small now that once there is food inside, there is really no more room for anything else!
The only times I've been able to drink right after eating something is when the food was super soft, like yogurt.
Hope this helped!

Emily,
Tiffany and Teri both gave great responses to your question. I just wanted to add that I am like you. I get very relaxed and out of habit will take a drink while eating. If you are not getting the reminder to stop in the form of it coming right back up, try spitting it out right away (obviously not while in public) but when at home, find a way to take the sip but don't swallow it. I try my hardest to wait 30 minutes after I eat but often only make it 20 mins. I do something to keep "drinking" off my mind right after I eat, fold clothes, wash dishes, ect. Then I'll get a drink.
Good Luck.
