Lab Tests

What lab tests does your doctor do for follow up after surgery? And how often have you seen your doctor since having surgery? I had surgery January 30, 2006. Staples were taken out 18 days after by a different doctor in his office. And i haven't seen a doctor since. I did call and ask and was able to get a appt for the end of this month. I just want to know that everything is okay......suzan

I have an appt on 5/1 and I had surgery 1/27. So far I havn't had test's done until this appt. I have a whole panel of blood tests that need to be done to check for malnutrition. This will be my fourth appt since surgery, not at my request but required by my doc. I have met once with him directly, and then the other times with either a PA or the internalist. I have also met with the trainer and with the nut. twice. They are all at the same office, a part of the same team. Leeanne

I see my surgeon everytime I go in, which has been about 4 times since surgery. I had my labwork done last week and will find out the results at my next appointment. The surgeon goes over my food choices ect and sets a goal for my next visit. Kim

I had surgery 1/23/06 and have been to see the surgeon at 1 week and then 6 weeks, and go back at 2 months in a couple of weeks. I have seen my surgeon every time. I will have lab tests done when I go for my 3 month check up. My PCP recently did blood work, but it didn't include all the checks for vitamin/mineral deficiencies.

You know I was beginning to wonder when I'd be getting these infamous blood tests that everyone has talked about, I thought the Dr was gonna order them two weeks ago when I went in for my 3rd post op check up, but none were ordered for me, Is this normal? Should I be concerned? April

I wouldn't be concerned. My Surgeons don't do labs for a full year unless there is an actual concern. They are very experienced (30 years) and see no need for it. Their complication rate is well below the national average and I trust them totally. I have gone for visits at the two week period, the six week period and now again this Thursday for the three month check-up. Emily
