Constipation!!!
What a title, huh? The one problem I have battled since surgery has been constipation and today I'm suffering with it horribly. I am sitting here at work, miserable, feeling nauseous, and vaguely wondering if I can shift enough work load to go home -- that's how very bad I feel.
I take fiber tablets on top of the fiber I get with my food. My surgeon told me that I could take MOM preventively every other day or so, but I don't like doing that because #1 - I don't want to get dependent on it to go, and #2 -- the effects of the MOM are just as bad sometimes as the constipation itself. The growly stomach, the hint of nausea, etc.
Not really looking for advice (although any is surely welcome), I just wanted to gripe, since I very rarely do that here.
Hi Melissa,
Ahhhh to be 37 again! I'm sorry we missed your birthday too! Hey, you're gonna have 2 birthdays in the same week like I had!! My thoughts are totally with ya. I'm the one holding the banner that says: Sip..rest...walk...Sip...rest...and walk! Skinny dreams for you this week-end

Hey Dave,
As the second Marc Jacobs to post, I wanted to say that for most of us, something medical has happened and gave us the wake up call we all needed. The fact your wife is 3 months and you have someone you trust who you can talk with and monitor the success is a real positive.
Remember, you have a wealth of information at your hands and the guys in the "locker room" are happy to share (good and bad). No matter what you course of action you select, know that it will be the first step to a better life.

My knee has been killing me for a while now. I had one surgery for a torn medial miniscus in Oct of 05. Now there's a narrowing in the joint from where the cartiledge was removed. I don't know if I can make the lifestyle change the surgery would force. I have crap for will power, but I've tried diet before and it just doesn't seem to take. So maybe a forced lifestyle change is what I need. I'm really bummed though. Want to be able to play ball with my boys want to do a lot of things. My wife says that if I get down to 250 she'll let me buy a motorcycle. Wooohooo!
Later,
Dave
I'm sorry your going through this. For the first month, I was constipated BAD. I was misrible!
I know this is not the healthiest solution but this is what I did..
I hate 6 SF Mentos (candy). I read it on the main board and tried it. It worked wonders. I was desperate! Now I drink Smooth Move tea twice a week before bed and I have not had a problem since.
I get the tea from Vitamin shoppe or GNC.
I hope you find a cure,
Kay
Hi there!!
I have the same problem. Use Flax seed oil or the grain you sprinkle on your food. You can buy this at a grocery store. I take the flax seed oil capsules( got at Walmart in Vitamin section). They are a little big, yet can manage to get down. I use MOM if I have to. You want to prevent a bowel obstruction, which is dangerous. I hope you find relief soon. Thats the only down side I have with this surgery. Good luck!!Let us know how you do.
