Thoughts About Hairloss
Yesterday I got my haircut. Since so many of you have already been having problems with hair falling out, I have started to be concerned but luckily haven't seen any "fallout" in the tub or in my hairbrush.
So I asked Jennifer (the gal who cuts my hair) if she noticed my hair thinning out. She laughed at me and asked me if I was kidding. You see, my hair is very thick and heavy. I told her about the problems with hair falling out after weightloss surgery. She said it may not happen to me as my hair is very healtHy and it's natural. I don't perm it and I don't color it.
So for those of you that have been experiencing problems with your hair, just a thought....do you perm your hair? Do you color your hair? What was the condition of your hair prior to surgery? I think this all has something to do with whether or not and if so how much we will loose.
Now I do know for a fact that not everyone looses hair and I'm hoping that I'm one of the lucky ones - heck I've got enough to deal with, but it was just something that I've been thinking about that I wanted to share.
Regards and hugs,
Ronna

I started turning gray at 23
In fact my father was totally white by the time he was 30. Luckily I take after my Mom and I'm just salt and pepper (although the salt is taking over the pepper these days).
I did color my hair when I was in my 20's but grew tired of it and haven't done it in over 25 years....so my hair is really healthy right now. Good thing too I guess

My hair was and is very healthy. I color it, but mildly, and not very often, so it is not damaged. Coloring really only hurts the dead part of the hair, not the roots that is where we loose the hair from. I also have taken biotin every day from 3 days after surgery. So the health of the hair doesn't play too much in it I don't think.
One thing that makes somewhat of a difference is the amount of hair one has. Thin hair doesn't take much loss to really be noticable. I have alot of thinner hair. I notice where it is going from, mostly around my face and the back of the head. Others will probubly never notice it much. But because my hair was layered years ago, it is starting to get stringy, so that is why I am going to have it cut in the next week or so.
I've prepared myself for the hairloss so if it happens, I'm ready to accept it.
I've been perming and coloring my hair for a long time. one month before surgery I stopped perming and coloring it in hopes that it would make a difference if and when it starts falling out. So don't be suprised if you see me with a LONG blonde wig on at the January reunion.. I'm kidding.

Ronna,
I am not concerned with hairloss per se, I am concerned with bald patches and or exposed scalp.
My hair was pretty healthy prior to surgery. I have tons and tons of hair, the kind that needs to be thinned out or it gets too bushy. Hopefully I have enough that I won't end up bald.
I usually color my hair but have not since surgery(I did it the night before.)
God Bless,
Jen
Im about to enter my thrid month since surgery...my hair is extremely thick, hairdresser says that I have enough hair for THREE ladies...and it reaches down to my backside!
As I brush my hair each morning, I DO lose long strands but Ive always lost hair...just looks like more because I have so much! Ive been on a strict and severe diets before...eg Burnstein Diet...and started to lose hair and they gave me fish oil capsules to take for that. I wonder if it would help to just start taking them now? just in case?
My hair does get a curly perm but is my natural blonde colours....approximately five shades, Im told by my hairdresser..egad! okay, I must admit here, I have pure white growing along my hairline in front..I just draw it out and pretend that Im growing my own highlights! *s*
