I would be interested to know how many of these people that posted have ever had a weight problem. It sure seemed one sided and when Mary tried to post about her positive experience I think that she was shut down! Ignorance... Leeanne

So I had to quit reading. They are obviously uneducated in this area and probably uneducated in other areas of their life as well. Most patients do have to live with it prior - i.e. med supervised diet. And should a person not have open heart surgery because they made bad decisions and ate cholesterol laiden foods and have blocked arteries. Should diabetics be denied insulin because they are overweight. OF course not that is ridiculous. Jackasses!

Just remember these are the SAME people who complain about the rise in insurance rates due to complications of obesity...you cannot please these BEAN POLE people!!! It's darned if you do and darned if you don't, so I say in the words of John Kerry's wife Teresa Kerry: SHOVE IT!!! I am so sick of the double standards of this country, if they only had one ounce of a clue of what we have had to go through to have this surgery, they would shut their traps. Sharon Osbourne who has the lapband had said once, that people are out to forgive those with alcoholism or a drug addiction than they ever do with someone who is obese...case in point, you try to lose weight, your last ditch effort before death is to get WLS and you get criticized for it...whatever!!! Hi All: I agree with all of you and could think of a few choice names I could call them. The FAD part kills me. The uneducated BOOBS have the nerve to call this life saving surgery a FAD I adore my wonderful doctor and I know that this surgery saved me. If this is all they have to do they all surely need a LIFE! Take care, Rosemary

This was also back in 2003 and 3 years later I hope people are more informed. I know in 2003 I didn't know much about this surgery and was TOO AFRAID to have it done until I researched it. Better to be informed before you stick your foot in your mouth!!! These people are uneducated!! Julie
