Congrats especially on the blood pressure and diabetes!  I've been going back through the past postings etc and we've had a few of the same frustrations.

I'm so looking forward to my BP comming down.  Still taking four meds daily but the surgeon says this will improve when weight loss is greater.  My cardiac follow up is next month so hopefully he'll at least reduce the meds.

Glad you're doing well!

I haven't heard of him but thanks for the link.... I'm gonna go check this out! I just got the book "Hungry Girl 200 Under 200" from Chapters and it has alot of great recipes in it. Some needing adjustments or ingredient changes, some are perfect!

Nope... it is very possible to be doing everything to the letter and still not lose as fast as you would like. I've lost 35.5 since Feb 17th (the rest in my ticker was from the 3 day liquid diet pre-op). I've also lost 18 inches (tracking chest, waist, hips, thigh, calf, and upper arm). I haven't had to take my diabetes meds since surgery and my blood pressure has never been this perfect!!!

S.A.R.A.'s post reminded me to share this with you.

I went to a cooking demonstration at a support group meeting where all the recipes were from the website www.ChefDave.org.  They were delicious and bariatric friendly.

I've never been to the website but I understand he is a patient of Dr Marema and has a few cook books out there.  His Sante Fe Turkey Salad and Poached Salmon were delicious.  This was the first time could comfortably eat these foods.  He even has desert recipes.

I tried the salmon myself and used his cooking method on ground turkey and I can finally eat a little of each without discomfort.  Has anyone else tried his recipes?  What did you think?

Do you eat enough?  I got my loss moving by making sure my calorie intake is at least at the minimum my nutrition plan is designed to provide.  Its a chore but has been worth the work.

The meat thing is frustrating me too (no constipation) but ground meats and processed meats like cold cuts and sausages are more palatable.   Most meat leaves me so uncomfortably full that drinking water an hour later is hard.  It has killed my appetite.  I've been suspected of anorexic behavior (developing an aversion to food as the nurse put it) but that is so off base.

I am dying to just enjoy my small meals as I thought I would.  Instead every other bite goes discretely into the napkin.  Makes dining with others very hard.

My weight loss was slow to stalled from day one.  I've got it moving by modifying my diet myself .  After my last discussion with the nurse, nutritionist and surgeon led to and hour with the psychologist I don't bring it up anymore.  Instead I count protein grams as my doctor requires but also calories and carbs.

The nutritionist plan is 800-900 calories and my surgeon says I should eat up to 1000.  I make sure I eat a minimum of 800 even if I use supplements to get there. I was averaging 450-600 before I asked what it should be.  I can't eat the 3-5 oz protein per meal required so I have 1-2 oz when I can tolerate it and vegetables are usually no problem.  My meals total 3 oz on average.

I still like to eat so shakes alone won't do.  Atkins protein bars meet all the nutritional guidelines I'm supposed to be following (high protein, very low carb) though not on my diet.  I get half my nutrition from protein powders and the bars.  I can't meet my protein goals without them.  I much rather eat the prescribed meals, but until I can  this is satisfying and healthy and I'm finally loosing.

I hope your nutritionist can help you with some workable solutions.  Also check out  bariatric friendly recipes on www.chefdave.org.  At a support group meeting I tasted two items I've had trouble with previously and each went down ok.  I keep trying...

Topic: Hey Feb loosers, how's everyone do'in? Been away, catch me up!
Missed you all! Missed so much!  Been reading through your old posts and wish I'd been online.  We went through a lot of the same ups and downs.

I've had lots of drama, (not all wls related) and been gone for a couple of months.  Also, I posted a few greetings to the wrong board.  I should have noticed that sooner than I did.

I've been praying for everyone regularly.  I missed the last week or so of Feb so I hope everything went well for you end of month surgeries.

So how  easy/ hard/ frustrating/ exhilarating has it been?  New clothes anyone?  How many sizes lost?  Anyone tracking inches lost?  (Check out my waist size ticker.)

I've lost inches faster than weight which I can't comprehend.  No jump start in the beginning for me, only 8lbs first month.  But, sized down from an 18W to a 14W, and now wear a 14 misses.  My wl is slow, erratic and frustrating but finally happening.

I lost a little, re-gained nearly half then started loosing.  Since Feb 9 I've loss just under 35 lbs, over half in one two week period.  Its been a hard fight.  I did not expect the pounds to melt away but I thought it was impossible not to loose steadily unless you were cheating and way out of control.

Dr M's only concern was if I was eating enough because I have little appetite most of the time, and meat is often so hard for me to eat.  He blames hormones, meds and water retention for my struggle.  I knew I had some metabolic issues but I really believed the RNY would conquer them easily.  Not so.

Still, no regrets!  Thankfully I've caught up to the % of excess weight  loss to date that he uses as a guide.  By my 3 month visit I should be 33% to goal, right on plan.  I'm so looking forward to when I no longer qualify as "obese".

Enough about me,
how's everything with you?????  Tell me, tell me please!
